How often should you change filter in home air conditioner?

My a/c tech says twice a year. Fall, so you're ready for heating season and Spring so you're ready for cooling season. Those are the 2 times a year he comes to change ours and we have the special allergy system.
How often should you change filter in home air conditioner?
Clean monthly my window units.
How often should you change filter in home air conditioner?
I own an A/C company and I change mine every month. They are a dollar each, whats the issue ?
Every 2 months, for people with allergies, personally I don't change mine but once every like 3-4 months
Every 2 months is sufficient. My husband is an air conditioning/heating service man for 5 yrs. Leaving a filter gooked up with junk doesnt allow your system to circulate properly...and your breathing all that junk it. It goes into your duct work.
every month, %26amp; clean the outside housing.
how often do change any filter. conditions vary. the best way is to plan and simply check it once a month then you can determine your conditions for replacement. if you live in a dusty area check it more often. opinions vary so eyeball it.

What can happen if you don't change your air filter in your car?

what can happen if you don't change your air filter in your car
What can happen if you don't change your air filter in your car?
1) poor gas mileage

2) poor acceleration/engine performance

3) engine will not idle well and may stall in severe cases

Air filters are cheap and a good thing to check and change often, especially if you live in a dusty area or in areas that have unusually high pollen count issues.
What can happen if you don't change your air filter in your car?
Gas mileage for one. You'll starve the engine for air, foul plugs, screw up the ECM, get the carb or fuel inject rails plugged. Not to mention increase tail pipe emissions. But what the heck, gas is only going up to over three dollars per gallon, why replace the air filter @ seven to twenty dollars (de- pending on year, make %26amp; model).

Your choice!
The same thing that happens to a bubble gum bubble when you put too much pressure in it. The filter will rupture or collapse %26amp; then start sucking dirt into the engine.
At the very least, your engine efficiency will be reduced; with the price of gas today, that's all the reason I need to change mine!
It'll eventually start to run poorly. Imagine yourself trying to breathe through a straw, especially while jogging.

You'll also eventually start to run rich (more gas than air) since the carb or computer system won't be able to adequately compensate for the lack of air, killing your mileage and crudding things up a bit in the engine.
Nothing.....if it says replace the air filter at 10,000 miles %26amp; you dont get round to it untill15,000 miles...no big deal..

however.. dirty air filter will make the car run rich. %26amp; use more fuel..( false economy .. air filters are cheap)

air filters keep the dust %26amp; stuff from entering the engine %26amp; damaging the internals...

so if your car is in a very dusty area you should change it more often than the recommended milage..

but dont fret to much if you forget to change it this month....next month will do..
I had this happen to me your filter can get so dirty it will plug and the car will be starved for air so bad it won't run. I blow mine out with compressed air and have used the same filter for years with no performance problems. There are millions of filters changed every year when they didn't need it. Mechanics make a lot of money convincing you that you need new parts. I might add I live on a dirt road so my car was in an unsual amount of dust.
if you dont change the air filter you restrict the air flow in the engine, you will loose horse power becuase the fuel wont have enough air to burn completly, therefore wasting gas and leaving excess fuel waste in your engine, over time it will **** up the car to the point where you have to petal to the floor to accelerate, fill up gas every 100 miles, etc. just change it its easy and cheap
It won't let your engine breathe and your gas mileage will suffer and acceleration.
2 things. One it will not let in as much air as it should and this will cause poor gas mileage. The other thing is that the engine oil will get dirty quicker. All the air that passes the filter goes into the engine. So if you grossly neglect it the oil will get very dirty and the gas mileage will drop. Put a towel over your mouth and then add a layer each day and see what happens. The same thing with the engine. It wont be able to breathe.

What would make my 1989 Dodge Ram 250 idle to fast? I have changed the air filter & the oil & filter?

take it and have the computer scanned on it that will give you a trouble code to work with ,without having that done all you can do is guess at it,auto zone will scan it for free then you,ll know, its usually a bad sensor that causes that too happen, but have it scanned to be sure, good luck with it.
What would make my 1989 Dodge Ram 250 idle to fast? I have changed the air filter %26amp; the oil %26amp; filter?
if the idle is high and variable it can be a vacuum leak......maybe a cracked rubber hose around the intake area.

It it is high and consistant it can be as simple as a timing adjustment or adjusting the idle itself.
What would make my 1989 Dodge Ram 250 idle to fast? I have changed the air filter %26amp; the oil %26amp; filter?
WELL FRIST OF ALL.THE OIL/FILTER DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. NOW YOU DONT SAY WHAT MOTOR BUT MOST ARE 318-360 OR MAYBE A V-6 BUT THEY ARE SO CLOSE TO THE SAME. AIR FILTER IF DIRTY WOULD MAKE IT RUN SLOW OR NOT AT ALL IF REAL BAD. YOU NEED TO HAVE IT SCANNED.BUT YOU DID NOT SAY IF CHECK ENG.LITE IS ON.BUT I WILL MAKE A GOOD QUESS AND SAY ITS MOST LIKELY TO BE A (IAC)IDEL AIR CONTROL OR (TPS) THROTTLE POSITION SOLENOID EVEN GIVEN THE FACT ITS A 1989 IT STILL HAVE A LOT OF COMPUTER STUFF THAT COULD BE WORN OUT, LIKE THINGS ,O2SENSOR,MAP SENSOR,AIR VALVE,BAD INJECTOR AND SO ON. FIND SOME WITH A SCANNER,SOMETIMES ADVANCE AUTO PARTS WILL DO IT FOR FREE GET IT SCANNED,GO FROM THERE.GOOD LUCK!
Most likely a vacuum hose leak in the engine compartment.

Look at the black box. Should be on right side by the battery.

Unhook the clips around the box and open it.

Take the air filter out and replace.

    Put clips back on box.

Where and how do I change the cabin air filter in a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500?

Does it even have one? Where is it and how do I change it? Could that be slowing down my A/C output?
Where and how do I change the cabin air filter in a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500?
If they go extended periods of time without being replaced they will become heavy with dust and mold and will slow down the air coming through the ac vents. The cabin air filter is located behind the glovebox on top of the blower motor. You must remove the glovebox first. After that their should be a tray of somesort sitting on top of the blower motor. Remove the tabs that hold the tray shut and you can then pull the filter out.

It would also be a good idea to pick up an antimicrobial spray solution to kill of the the mold and other allergens that are in the ac system. Any auto parts store will sell it along with your cabin air filter. The spray is $10 and the filter goes for about $20.
Where and how do I change the cabin air filter in a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500?
Those trucks do not have cabin air filter

Haven't changed air filter in Honda Accord (1996) for 4 years, but it's barely dirty?

what does that mean? shouldn't it be extremely dirty? thanks
Haven't changed air filter in Honda Accord (1996) for 4 years, but it's barely dirty?
Its all depends on the climate you live in. In a city you will have less dirt but gravel road driving I change mine every year. Honda Accords also don't suck that much air. If it isn't dirty don't change it. On the other hand, an air filter is cheap. If it makes you feel better change it and don't worry about it.

Might also be a good idea to check and make shure that all the seams on your air box are tight.
Haven't changed air filter in Honda Accord (1996) for 4 years, but it's barely dirty?
it may look clean but after 4 years if you do any driving at all change it . air filters catch a lot of fine dust and dirt particles so just because it doesn't look dirty your car can have a hard time breathing through it
If you have been driving it regularly then yes.
Did you check both sides of the Air Filter? Also, take it and hold it up to a light bulb, and if you cannot see the light through it, even if it looks clean then it is clogged. You should be able to see light through a clean filter.

4 years, you should change it just on principle.

Why when you change a motorcycles air filter and exhaust you need to re-jet the carb and on a car you don't?

Even if the motorcycle is fuel injected they recommend you re-jetting; but, for a car or truck or something like that you don't have to do this?
Why when you change a motorcycles air filter and exhaust you need to re-jet the carb and on a car you don't?
The motorcycle does not have an ECU that works it's maps out for it. A motorcycle needs to be mechanically induced to accept more fuel by being re-jetted and not through any sort of an electronic process. In a car you can remap the ECU to deliver more fuel but in most cases an exhaust and intake for a car do not throw it off as much and this is not needed; though more power can be gained by mapping correctly. Motorcycles will gain a lot from an unrestricted exhaust and will most likely lean out without a proper jet change.
Why when you change a motorcycles air filter and exhaust you need to re-jet the carb and on a car you don't?
Carbs have jets fuel injected does not.

Mower keeps cutting off after about 10 min. I changed the fuel, & air filter and the coil?

But still have the same problem. The only thing I can think of is to change the gas. What else could be the problelm?

It is a Tecumseh OHV 17.5 hp. About 5yrs old.
Mower keeps cutting off after about 10 min. I changed the fuel, %26amp; air filter and the coil?
Rebuild your carburetor.Or go to Auto Zone,or Pep Boys, etc and pick up some %26quot;seafoam%26quot;injector cleaner to add to the gas.But it sounds like you might have a float adjustment problem(bowl not filling up fast enough).
Mower keeps cutting off after about 10 min. I changed the fuel, %26amp; air filter and the coil?
Wow second one of the night for me. Just as a first guess I would say that the coil is going bad. Once they start to heat up they will stop producing spark. Next time it does it take the plug out and check to see it it has spark.
is it old gas, just a season or 2 can get old, flush and replace gas
check the vent hole in the filler cap

as the gas gets drawn from the tank a vacum is formed if this is blocked and the fuel can not flow to carb
If you have water in the tank and fuel filter from bad gas it will do that same thing.
    replace gas its old

  • How do you Change the air filter on peugeot 307?

what size engine is it i have the same car,ive did it , but the air filter is in different places for different size engines, i have 1.6.

How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?

i have a 98 Muercry Mystic and i know that when i get the air compresser and blow air directly in to the air filter chamber i get more horse power, how do i achieve the same effect with out having to buy a turbo charger. any one know of a simple home made device?
How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?
Any time you can increase the forced air intake on a vehicle you gain horse power.

There are aftermarket items (The Tornado) that are made to increase airflow without comprimising the smog aspects (like california smog laws).

It's also not so much as the actual increased air amount but the amount of air that is fed into the EFI/Carburation system that actually provides this 'Boost'
How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?
Opening up the intake allows the engine to breathe better. Try routing the air intake duct to point toward the front of the car where the most air comes into the engine compartment and also remove the intake silencer. Good luck.
Aerodynamics is also important, have a look at what is slowing the car down, such as open windows.

here's more on aerodynamic drag, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drag_(physi鈥?/a>

It's not the most important thing to think of, for such a car, but it does help.
you can also put in like 92 or 93 octane gas so it gives you more power and it let your engine run more smooth.
the only way to better yourself and your mercury mistake is to buy a for sale sign and put it in the window. or take it to the junkyard.

you can double the value of your mercury mistake by filling the tank with gasoline.
Get a free air-filter set by the car grint and change the last muffler boiler. You may change the whole muffler set, but it takes

a car horsepower study. If it is at a point of 5.0 lit. ,change the whole pipe set and add the free filter. You'll get some acceleration

improvement and a kick down betterment, but don't expect turbo miracles! Put a bigger radiator and fan elice too.-

    Ciao.......John-John.
you can buy an aftermarket intake that will force more air into the engine in result more power an also you could probly change the throttle body too a bigger one which will open up the air flow even more. and opening up the exhaust will help it breathe better

intake system? In other words, is the box the holds my air filter the air intake system?
Is the air filter that I change ever 12,000 miles the same thing as the air filter that would go on an air?
Yes it is. You do NOT need to use OEM (dealer) air filters, any air filter will work. stay awa from Fram.

If you are referring to the cabin air filter, then that would be a different filter, and that should be changed yearly.
Is the air filter that I change ever 12,000 miles the same thing as the air filter that would go on an air?
yes. please use OEM filters (the filter that the vehicle manufacturer recommends)
one and only air filter is a air filter and yes it is a part of the intake system
I would like to take this time and inform you that there is an air filter that you never have to change. Instead, you CLEAN it every 50,000 miles. This is a K%26amp;N Highflow air filter.

How do i change air filter in 2005 chrysler sebring?

The air filter housing should be located on the driver's side part of the engine compartment. It will probably have clips that keep it tightly closed. All you have to do is pull down on them and it should release. There should be 3 or 4 clips. Take the top off of the housing, remove old air cleaner, replace and snap all clips back up. That should be all there is to it. Good luck :o)

You know, I didn't even ask. I just assumed. You did mean the air filter for the engine, not the one for the passenger compartment? If it is the one for the passenger compartment, it is called a cabin filter and it is located underneath the wiper cowl...the plastic thing under the windshield where the wiper arms come out of. There is a wiper cowl removal tool available at Advance Auto or similar parts store that will help removing the clips without destroying them. The filter is located under that. Again, good luck. :o)

Go buy a Chilton's or Haynes service manual for your car for $20 or so. It has ALL the info you'll ever need. Buy 'em at any auto part store (AUTOZONE, Pep Boys, Checker/Kragen). YOu might find the procedure on Autozone's website (www.autozone.com) by registering on the site - they have some procedures detailed on the site per part, so if you look up a part for your car you might find the procedure.

Replacing an air filter isn't rocket science. Most cavemen, in fact, can do it. Just pop the hood and look for the air intake (it will have a big air hose coming back from the grill. Follow it until you find the big black box with the clips on it. Unsnap the clips, pull the lid off and remove the filter. To install a new one, reverse the procedure.

Thank you, that will be $84.50.
Agree with t20. Take the car in to a lube shop for a service. Have them change the air filter and change the oil and filter and check your fluid levels. You would be better off not opening the hood yourself.

As with all modern vehicles size constraints greatly reduce the amount of working room underneath the hood. Having owned 5 Hondas myself I know what you are up against trying to replace your air filter. I would go to the Honda dealership and have the service department counter photocopy the page in the manufacturers repair manual that explains the steps in replacing the filter. Read it thoroughly and keep it close while you work through the process. It has worked for me before on a lot of other repairs. Try it out. Good luck.

Oh god if you can't do this then you really shouldn't be anywhere near a car let alone fill up the window washer fluid.
Tighten it back up, take it to a JiffyLube and let them change the filter for you (you can take your new filter with you). Watch how they do it and next time you will know the procedure, but for now, you will be getting the job done correctly and without getting your hands dirty, and learning something new.
There's probably something else you have to take off first. Go to your library, and check out a manual for your car. You should find all your answers there.
buy a manual from repco its will show you how, usually you have to just slip ur hand in the small gap and pull it out (you will scratch you hand) thats wat i have to do with my civic

don't waste your money on a manual..... the only thing that they tell you that isn't common sense is torque and valve specs
The first thing you do is to go and get yourself a service manual. A Clymer manual for this bike only costs $34 + shipping. A service manual will pay for itself the very first time you use it.

A service manual will have detailed step by step instructions on how to service your bike, including servicing the air filters.

With a service manual you will no longer need to depend on strangers on the Internet for your maintenance procedures. You will no longer need to decide if the procedure from these strangers is accurate or just a bunch of B.S. I find it amazing how much B.S. someone will give on Yahoo Answers for a measly 2 points.

So get yourself a service manual and do it right

    Or

Start taking stuff off of your bike. Continue to take stuff off of your bike until you find the air filters. Take more stuff off of your bike until the air filters come out.

Put in new air filters. Start putting stuff back on your bike until you run out of stuff.

1 month, 30 days-- it is all the same
I usually check mine every two weeks during the winter. If it is dirty, i then pull it out and install another new one. They don't cost very much, and can be changed easily. They just slide through a slot in the tinwork.
every 3 - 6 months depending on the type of filter (monthly for the really cheap filters)
I was told every 3 months but I change mine every month.
depends on dirt and dust in home......minimum of every heat or cooling season or every six months
I Check it every month but if I can see light through it then I leave it in. Sometimes it will last 3 or 4 months, sometimes 1. If yours where that bad you might want to check the condenser under your fridge. Vacuum the dusty coils under there before that starts acting up
I usually clean mine once a month (I rinse it out. There are some filters that cannot be rinsed). This might be extreme. I replace the filter 2 times per year. If you cannot rinse off the filter I would replace it every 3-4 months.
Which is depend on the time of using I think. About 2 moths

I have a home air filter, and I have noticed a layer of black grime collecting on the walls near the air filter. Any ideas why this is happening and what I can do to stop it?? I have changed the actual filter part, no change. The filter is HEPA style with a carbon layer inside to filter out smell.
Is my air filter causing black grime on my walls?
do you smoke? do you have central air and heat? could it be mold from the inside of the wallboard? what is the humidity level?

whatever the problem, it's not CAUSED by the air filter. it's some kind of particulate matter in the air. smoke. dust, whatever. your air filter will cause a draft towards and away from the filter because of the fan(s) in the filter and whatever is in your air is gathering on the walls near the filter. BUT the filter is taking more of it out than is gathering on the walls! right?

i assume you are talking about a stand alone air filter system. if you are talking about an electrostatic or other filter system in your central air and heat, well you need to have your mechanical room sealed possibly. i would need more info to go farther.
Is my air filter causing black grime on my walls?
Change the filter every three months, and have all the ducts cleaned out. When was the last time you have had this done.?
The dust laden air is being pushed against the nearest surface, walls or ceilings, where is creates dirt streaks. The inside of your duct work remains clean due to the electronic air cleaner and filters doing their job.
If you burn alot of cheap candles, that will do it. You may want to have your furnace inspected to be sure the heat exchanger is still in good condition. (which should be done annually) Also over time with air constantly moving over a surface in the same direction(i.e. toward filter) dust that is in the air will start to show up on surfaces.

    right area wrong place ....

It is under the passenger side windshield moulding. the moulding is held in by 2 or 3 c -clips along the bottom and a few clips along the windshield.. once it is removed the cabin air filter is right there but it is hard to remove due to the angle it's at.

The ashtray smell is probably something else not the cabin air filter. air out the car by rolling down the windows for a few hours and turn the a/c to max (which bypasses the air filter).. If musty smell still there, you I think have other problems. and a mechanic shop is needed (as there are chemicals to kill musty smells)
Open the hood and remove the right windshield wiper cowl on the right side, and the filter is right there.

another good reason to remove the gas is that high octane gas can spill on your paint job and if a tank is sitting wrong for a little bit, the paint will be totally screwed.

When should you change your air filter in a vehicle?

I don't own one, but there are two basic ways air filters are changed in newer cars...either the black box will have a few clips around the edge, or up to five screws around the edge...

Loosen the top half, lift it up, change the filter element, pull out any debris from the bottom half, put the new filter in, tighten/clip the latches...

    Bingo, all done...

Can't change cabin air filter of Galant 03?

    Hi there,

I've looked at the manual of Galant 96-03 and it says the interior ventilation air filter is located right behind the glove box, just unscrew a couple of bolts and pull it out. Well, I see the rectangular box as they pointed in their illustrations, but I there is nothing to pull out, all is just like one part. I tried a screwdriver and even a know to pull out, but it didn't work. I really wonder whether other owners of Galant 03 has the same problem. (I bought it used from a dealer, so previous owners could have modified it).

Thanks for all inputs in advance.

  • Whats better a K&N o.e replacment filter or a k&n air intake kit?

i have a 2001 dodge durango and i have 77000 miles on it so i think its about time to change the air filter. so i was wondering what would be better to get . a kit that costs like 200 bucks or just a good quality filter replacement by K%26amp;n. i read the kit lets more air in because its a shorter distance to the engine blocks and better acceleration. but will a 40 dollar replacment k %26amp; n air filter give me the same results? thanks.
Whats better a K%26amp;N o.e replacment filter or a k%26amp;n air intake kit?
i own a 99 model ram 1500 and all i used was the replacement filter in it,and it helped it a lot,i noticed a small gain on mileage, and a about the same on take off power also, but i did get a little bit more mileage from it than from the old filters, and i have well over 100 k on it, now,so you may notice more of a difference than i did, they do work though and are worth the cost, good luck.

The whole system would be better for power. the whole system would be less restriced and suck in more air. the replacement k%26amp;n would still be better than stock, just not as good as a whole system. but the replacement k%26amp;n would be alot cheaper
if you ever look in the air hat of a 4.7 its a straight shot to the throttle body. I owuldnt get a K%26amp;N filter of any kind. I had one once and all it did was coat my tb and everything else in an oily gritty grime. liek I have said in the past you cant have better filtration and increase air flow at the same time. sounds liek these other poepel are going by butt dyno. seen people dyno stock filters and k%26amp;n replacement filters and showed no increase in HP or tourqe. also if you look on the box it states you MAY see an increse in HP and tourqe.

save your money and your engine and dont get a oil cotton gause filter. remember what you find in your intake finds its way in to your internals of your engines.

    Spend the $10.
figure your mileage now and change the filter and figure it again thats the only way to be sure anything else is pure conjecture. unless you flow test the suspect airfilter against a new one also different brands flow and filter differently so do keep that in mind shopping a new filter.
Just spend the few bucks and change it.
i would have looked at it BEFORE i bought car(to get a free one) cleanair ilter is always an improvement....maybe 1 to 2 mpg...good luck good driving habits and correct tire pressure will also help...and don't %26quot;hot rod%26quot; it.

How much does it cost to change an air filter for a 2004 camry?

i went to the auto shop today to get an oil change. while changing the oil, the repairman said i had a nail in my tire so he fixed it. does removing the nail in the car cost $15 because that is what he charged me.

also, he said i needed to change my air filter and it was going to cost me $45. i didnt have enough money to change my air filter and i said i will come back. but i had a strange feeling that he was trying to rip me off. $45 to change a filter? how much does it cost?
How much does it cost to change an air filter for a 2004 camry?
A basic air filter at Autozone shouldn't run you more than $10. Installing it takes about 5 minutes. If you really have no mechanical skill or knowledge, just pay the money to have it done right and don't risk messing something up by doing it yourself.

If he had to remove the nail and plug the hole you're probably going to need a new tire soon, those quick fix tire repair deals usually don't last long.
How much does it cost to change an air filter for a 2004 camry?
You can probably go to the auto parts dealer to buy the air filter and if you ask nicely, they might even come out to the car to put it in and show you how. It's easy and NOT worth $45.

To remove a nail and plug a tire should only be about $10 at most and don't worry about it lasting. A good patch or plug will last the life of the tire and is NOT considered a %26quot;quick fix%26quot; but a standard fix for a flat tire.

What is considered a %26quot;quick fix%26quot; is those Fix-a-Flat crap that comes in a can and you spray it in.
1 The nail removal Should include a plug altho many newer tire designs are self sealing.

#2 The air cleaner is charged by an hourly rate with a 1 hour minimum. It's an easy fix, you can do yourself with a screwdriver.

There is a big box on top of the engine with a plastic tube, follow the tube to another box near the front grill or head lite.

Ford air filters are usually concealed inside a square/rectangle or similar shaped box. The top of the box is usually only held on by screws or clips that join the two halves together, to locate it look for said black box then follow the pipes if they lead to the engine inlet you got the correct box. Why is my air conditioner still freezing after I changed the filter?

I forgot to change the filter of my air conditioner unit for a whole year (whoops!) and just thought about it the other day, at which time I opened it up and found that the whole thing, although running fine, was frozen over and dripping all over the floor. I let it thaw out then changed the filter, but it still keeps freezing over every time I turn it on now. How can I fix this, or do I need to call a technician?
Why is my air conditioner still freezing after I changed the filter?
only 2 reasons for it to freeze over 1 dirty a-coil...since you went a year without changing your filter this could be the only problem....2 low on freon...this means you have a leak somewhere...it is legal to just have it recharged...but i would recommend you get it fixed when your cooler seasons starts
Why is my air conditioner still freezing after I changed the filter?
    It is low on freon
your air conditioner have a leak or also can be the compresor burn out but fist thing you have to chek is the capasitor
if it works some times check collant lvls if it doesnt work at all it could be the fan in the box outside the home not working.
Turn it on low cool. If you have a dehumidifier, run it.
most likely you are low on freon and will need a technician to recharge your unit.
TRY HOSING OR CLEANING THE COIL`S
    It's low on freon
Take a water hose and clean the coils. This would be the cheapest way If it works you have saved money but if it does not. Check the cost of getting old one fixed compared to buying new one. ACs right now are going down in price because most places teh season is almost over. Shop around before you decide to fix old one.

How often do I change my cars air filter?

I drive about 6000 miles a year, and I changed it about 2 years ago. I live in california, and not much dust or sand around.
How often do I change my cars air filter?
California has a lot of silica sand (clear hard to see particles) that is airborne so changing it every six months regardless of mileage is recommended. If you bang it on a black piece of paper you will see lots of it falls off. They are very cheap and not worth the trouble of ending up with a clogged one as you try to climb steep hills. If you change the cheap things often, like oil, fuel filter, air filter and radiator fluid your car will last a very long time. That is the real secret to having a car go for what seams like forever. Ever wonder we two guys with the same car have them in different conditions.
How often do I change my cars air filter?
Cheap quick way to help fuel economy; I get mine about every 18 months
Just replace it every few years or if you notice a problem.
oh I would still change it about twice a year.
Typically 12,000 miles would be fine as long as you are not in dust or doing heavy towing. You will be fine for every 2 years. While you are at it, change your fuel filter at the same time ;-)

Hope this helps and good luck
Check your filter and see how much dirt is in there. If there isn't much, or if its still kinda white, then don't worry about it. If its dark, then replace it. Its $12 to 15 for a new one. So, its not that bad.
I change mine lat least once a year, twice if I can remember. Especially now that I have an SUV.
A good rule of the thumb. Take the filter off, hold it against light (sun light can work) and if you can see light is ok. Use your judgment. If you drive a lot of urban miles I would say 1 to 2 years is ok. If you go off road, check your filter when you do maintenance and change it accordingly.

The Owner's Manual tells you when to change it too and how.
check your owners manual to see what they recommend.

  • How often should car air filter be changed and can it really save that much gas at all?

Some owner's manuals say that under %26quot;normal%26quot; service, the air filter lasts 25,000 miles typically. Hold the filter up to the sun or a strong lightbulb and you should see some light come through. Ideally, purchase a %26quot;green%26quot; renewable (cleanable) K%26amp;N, Fram or other filter that can be washed and reoiled as often as you like!
How often should car air filter be changed and can it really save that much gas at all?
every year. it is alot cheaper than buying more gas
How often should car air filter be changed and can it really save that much gas at all?
check it at every oil change. Change it if it looks dingy. They're not that expensive, so when in doubt, change it.

You can get washable, reusable ones, but they're only worth it if you plan on having the car a loooong time.
whenever it it show signs of dirt. what could of air do you like breathing??clean air just like your motor wants a dirty filter will diffently choke up you motor.

How often should you change your air filter in your car ?

Frankie is right. If it is not dirty don't change it. You can blow it out with compressed air or just tap it on one of the tires evey time you change the oil. If it looks clean it probably is. Most service centers will try to tell you it needs changing every time. That's how they make money. If it looks dirty to you,go to Auto Zone and get one. They are allot cheaper their.
How often should you change your air filter in your car ?
Every time you change your oil !
How often should you change your air filter in your car ?
Once a year is fine for city driving only. If you live on dirt roads and drive on dirt roads every 3-6 months.
A lot of that depends on your driving habits and where you drive. Do you live on or have to drive a many dusty dirt roads? Do you drive about 1000 miles a month or 10,000 miles a month? Those are just two questions you need to know the answer to.

At the very least change it once a year, maybe the inspection / plate renewal month. In dusty conditions more often.
You should check and clean it at every maintenance service (ie oil change, lube) and if it is too dirty to clean, replace it. You should do a service every 3 months or 3,000 miles, whichever comes first.
every year or if you pull it out and hold it up to the air and look throw it if you cant see any light then change it!!!!!!
When it gets dirty.Check every 1-2 months.

Better yet, switch to a lifetime air filter, like AFE. Get the dry type that can be cleaned with laundry detergent.

Can a cheap air filter damage my engine?

I have a 1.9 CDTi 150ps. I have found a air filter for 拢3.99, is this worth buying or a load of junk...... baring in mind i am going to change the cheap air filter every 3months or so since they are so dam cheap.

    thanks.
Can a cheap air filter damage my engine?
If an air filter doesn't it's job it will just restrict the air causing your car to stall for lack of air to make a good cumbustion mixture.
Can a cheap air filter damage my engine?
Provided that its the correct filter for the car, only a cheaper alternative then why not. it will probably break down quicker so changing every 3 months is ideal. Go for it.
Probably not right off, but over the long haul it may cause somewhat greater piston and ring wear.
It should have a grading in the technical bits about what is the largest size of particle it will let through the mesh. This is the important bit because if it's going to let golf ball sized rubbish in to the engine it doesn't matter if you change it every 3 months, the rubbish will get in from day 1. A good quality filter will reduce the crap that goes in and hence (if you drive sensible like) your engine will last longer.

    Or something like that.
Yes, buy a quality one that is compatible with your car. You might save money up front but in the long run, your car is going to suffer and that is going to cost you more 拢拢拢.
If you're going to change it every 3 months then it probably won't be as cheap as the 拢20 one that'll last a couple of years.

I stay away from 'cheap' anything to do with a car. Why save a couple of quid here %26amp; there and run the risk of doing some damage somewhere.

Where can I find the air filter in a Lennox central air unit in the garage of a condo so I can change it?
Determine which duct is the Return (cold) air-- examine that. The air is filtered before being heated.

Filters are RARELY sealed in with screws... look for pull-handles or hand grasps along the duct.

Do you have an electrostatic cleaner? You would then probably have no disposable filter.... but the cleaner plates and pre-filters would need washing.

Call the installing company if you know who it was.

Call a Lenox Installer if you don't.
Where can I find the air filter in a Lennox central air unit in the garage of a condo so I can change it?
Call Lennex with the model number.
The filter is located in the return air duct.

The filter will be located either in the return air duct at the furnace, in a wall filter grill (such as in a hall way), or it could even be in a filter grill in the ceiling.

Sometimes the filter is located behind a panel in the furnace itself. This panel can usually be removed with out any tools there are usually thumb latches.

My owner's manual shows me where to change the AC air filter (right behind the glove compartment) but I can't find anything on the regular air filter.

Is it located in the box at the top, near the front center (what looks like a typical air filter box), and is there any reason why I shouldn't change it myself rather than paying $50 for the service garage to do it?

I used to change the air filter in my Explorer with no problem, but the service manager at my Toyota place tried to dissuade me from doing so with my Highlander.

Not sure which engine you have in this vehicle but it shouldnt be too difficult to change. According to the time guide it should only take 0.2 of an hour to change on a 3.3 3MZ-FE.

Of course the service manager doesn't want you to do it yourself, it'll lose him easy easy money on what is one of the simplest DIY jobs on any car.

The air box should simply unclip. Just open it up and drop in the correct new filter element.

it is usually located in the box at the top, near the front center and you should do it yourself to save you costs.

How often should I change the air filter in my car ?

You should inspect it every time you have the oil changed. Replace it when it is dirty. The frequency that you have to change the air filter will vary on the area you live in and drive in. If you live in an area with a lot of dirt roads it will need to be changed more often. If you have a shop change your oil be sure to ask them to check the filter and ask them to see it.

How often should I change the air filter in my car ?
the manual says 30K miles but mine was still very clean. check it once a month or so ( when you check your tires ) and replace as needed.
If you hold it up to the light and no light gets through, it needs changing. Check it in the spring and the fall.
EVERY 12 MONTHS OR 7500 MILES.
hi j j! it just depends on where you drive your car. if you drive on dusty roads then i say change it more often. about all you can do is take it out and look at it.
They should check air filter when you get the oil changed. Beware of Jiffy Lube however. Twice they told me that my air filter needed changing. Twice I told them no. I then took my car back to my car dealer and both times, he told me that the air filter did NOT need changing, as it was not dirty enough to do so.
You should change the filter everytime you change the air in your tires and top off the headlight fluids. I suggest twice a year. You could also rotate your brake lights and charge the cigar lighter, but these are optional. Check with your mechanic.

Does it really help your gas mileage if you change your air filter frequently or is it a marketing scam?

CLEAN AIR FILTERS ALLOW AN ENGINE TO BREATHE PROPERLY...WHEN THEY DO THEY BURN GAS MORE EFFICENTLY
Does it really help your gas mileage if you change your air filter frequently or is it a marketing scam?
Yes it will help your gas mileage if you have a new air filter every 12,000 miles.
Does it really help your gas mileage if you change your air filter frequently or is it a marketing scam?
A dirty air filter will definately hurt your gas mileage. It will also hurt performance and could cause your car to fail an emmissions test.

However, unless your always driving in a cloud of dust, a new air filter should last at least a year.
Yes it helps. your engine can't work as efficiently if it don't get enough air to mix with the fuel!
a dirty air filter can act as a choke, causing more fuel to enter and les air. this will decrease the power output of the engine and drop fuel economy.
If you drive with a dirty filter, it will use more fuel. Frequency of necessary changes depends on the conditions you drive in. If it is a dusty dirty area it will need to be changed more frequently. It isn't that expensive or difficult and is cheap insurance to make your car run more efficiently. ADDED---Your car is still under warranty, so I would not suggest installing a K%26amp;N filter. They are known to void the factory warranty and I don't think you want to risk it for a minimal improvement at best.
You defiantly need to have a clean filter in your car. If you want the most mileage purchase a K%26amp;N filter. They are expensive but they are cleanable and will be the last filter that you ever buy for your car. They do increase fuel mileage as well.
it depends, for certain cars yes it will make a difference, but im not sure how significant it is, but i suppose every little bit helps.

just like putting more air in your tires, that save gas because the car doesn't have to use as much energy that way.

    hope i helped:)
Yes, they should last about a year/12,000 miles...avoid Fram (terrible quality) K %26amp; N has a great marketing department (really expensive, and do you really want to wash it using their %26quot;special%26quot; cleaner) trust me, just get a good quality Wix air filter, throw it away / put in a new one once a year you'll be all set.
no it really does help one to change it but you don't have to change it as often unless you live in a real dusty place where its constantly getting dusty and dirty,it is important though to change it when needed,a good way to tell when it needs changed is remove it and hold it up to a light and if you can still see though it then its still good, when it gets dirty enough that you can see the dirt or you cant no longer see light though it replace it,good luck.
    It definitely does!
It depends what brand flux capacitor you have installed in your car...

Just go down to your local autoparts store and have them look up what kind of filter you need. Most of the time they will have it in stock and if you ask they will come out and help you put it in. there are only a couple clips on the air box and it pops right out. pretty easy.

Is it a horizontal unit located in the attic or is it in a closet in the house or garage?

Return air grilles usually are located at the bottom or the back of the air handler. If you can determine the type of unit you have, the filter should be accessible at the bottom or the back of your unit. Goodman units are no exception as to filter location.

As to the no air flow problem it could be a cooling coil that is restricted.or is icing up causing air blockage.

It sounds like the problem isn't your filter. Generally, you will get some air flow even if the filter is dirty.

Sounds like you need a serviceman. Good Luck.
    hey,

I pulled cover over carbs. to clean thought there would be air filter to change none there. Does this motor use one.
Does a 1977 75 hp evinrude have an air filter?
No, most outboard motors do not have air cleaners since you run them over water and not a dusty road.

How do i change the air filter in my toyota camry 07?

and how much does it cost?

I have a 07 camry LE 4cyl and only getting like 14 mpg. the car has about 26k miles on it
How do i change the air filter in my toyota camry 07?
I have never seen under the hood of that car but it definitly should be getting better mpg than that. Its not very hard to change the air filter and if you get a stock replacement filter and not a high performance race filter it will cost less than 20 dollars. just look for a curvy pipe like tube coming off the engine toward one of the headlights and open it by releasing the clips no tools usually required. Then just lift out the old and drop in the new. very simple autozone or some other alike other parts store will tell you what kind and will have it in stock. they will probably install it for you if you ask they usually do stuff like filters and wipers for you. if the filter isnt really dirty the mpg problem could easily be spark plugs, oxygen sensor, or tire pressure too low. hope i helped.
How do i change the air filter in my toyota camry 07?
the filter might be 20 to 30 bucks at the dealer and they wont charge you anything to put it in, they will do it as a courtecy to earn your buisness so you come back

    good luck

btw, if your camry is getting 14 mpg that odd, have it checked out. that is really low mpg for a 4 cyl camry
buy a new filter find the big black box under the hood flip two clips of it lift it up put in the new one clip it closed and your done

go to walmart and they have an electric thing that can tell you what filter to buy its only 16 dollars
go to a car shop and ask for help. and the air filter cost less than 20 dollars

How do I change the air filter in my 2005 honda accord ex?

You have to take the old filter out. Look in your owners manual for the location (under the hood ). Usually there are spring-type locks that you have to unsnap to get the filter box open (usually a black plastic box). Some have a wing nut.

You could also go to AutoZone or Advance Auto and buy a new one and they will help you change it. It takes about 1 minute.

Why is my Yamaha FX High Output air filter clogged with Oil?

I just got my Yamaha Waverunner serviced at 50 hours. I had the regular 50 hour service done and the air filter changed. I am now at 68 hours with oil in my air filter again. Please help me understand how this could happen twice to a Yamaha 2005 FX High Output Waverunner. Something does not feel right about my service guys. Thank you for the help!
Why is my Yamaha FX High Output air filter clogged with Oil?
An air filter is supposed to be coated with oil. Helps to trap alien particles.

Scion xb maintenance question. Went for oil change; shop says air filter needs replacing.?

Maintenance schedule recommends inspection at 15k (my current miles) and replacement at 30k, unless you're on dirt or desert roads. I live in the Washington DC area, so that's not an issue.

Should I decline the air filter change? If I were at 23k or more, I wouldn't be as suspicious of the need for the change, but this is exactly half of the mileage listed in the schedule.
Scion xb maintenance question. Went for oil change; shop says air filter needs replacing.?
30k miles is way too long for an air filter in any type of driving. The normal interval is between 12k and 15k miles. I am not saying that the manual doesn't say 30k miles and I am normal a stickler for going by the manual. But the air filter is one thing I do by the looks of it not mileage. Hold it up to light and see if you can see through all the fins. Any way I doubt they are trying to rip you off. They just see what is in front of them and ask you. Ultimately it is your decision so if you buy it and don't think it needs it in your own mind then you just ripped yourself off. I think that the normal person can look at an air filter and see if it is bad or not. Have you ever changed a furnace filter. It is not really much different when the filter get plugged you change it even if it is earlier than 6 months like the furnace manufacturer tells you.
Scion xb maintenance question. Went for oil change; shop says air filter needs replacing.?
the air filter is really cheap and something that needs to be changed regulary, it will also help you get better gas milage when its clean, they dont cost more than 15-20$ so you should do it
I change mine every 12000 miles, they do get full of dirt even in cities.

Although I buy the filter in Walmart for 12 bucks and fit it myself, it take less than 5 minutes.
take it out and hold it up to the light, can you see thru it? is it full of dust, bugs and crud?, if its more than one year old, change the filter, your car will last much longer
do it. oil %26amp; clean air are the %26quot;life%26quot; of the engine. if the man says it needs changing, it probably does.
they r trying to rip u off. they will tell u anything because they make no money on oil changes...If they can sellu a %26quot;motor flush%26quot; a Transmission vacume for 150 dollars each they will
Look it over yourself before you decide. If it looks filthy and can't be %26quot;blown%26quot; with an air hose, then replace it.

You are correct in being suspicious about changing it now if you don't drive on dirt roads. Is the engine running really well? The proper mix of clean air is essential to that.
don't change it. When you get your car back remove the filter yourself and clean it with a vacuum or air hose. At 15k there should be know reason to replace it.
ok heres the poop for you, you must change and follow those specifications in your manual or else your warranty is voided, but you can always replace things early having a new filter on there before its required will not hurt anything as far as does it need it well i really couldnt tell you i know that in the mid 90s and beyond manufactures have been making cars that go longer and longer between services tho personally im suspicious of that i think they want them to break quicker in quicker lol but truthfully my grandpa always used the rule of thumb 3k oil and oil filter and air filter, 6k plugs 20k plug wires and i faithfully follow and stick by that rule whats the worse that happens if you change it early a air filter form auto zone is no more than 8 dollars and your air filter does help determine your gas mileage this shop is charging you to replace your filter ( which is suprising usually its free with servi ce where i live) but probably not more than ten bucks or close to that so why not do it if it bothers you that much go to autozone and get a KN or powerzone filter ( thats about 50 to 80 bucks) and put it on its very easy no bolts your air cover which is ontop of the engine or thereabout snaps off put new filter in snap back on and the next time you get serviced if they say they want to replace it you know there lying KN and powerzones never get replaced altho if you notice a downgrade in your perfromance or mileage you simple take them out and put them in your dishwasher and reuse thme anyway thats the dirt for you
Why not just check it yourself. I have a K%26amp;N but, I clean it every time I change my oil. It shouldn't be very hard to change it, and I'm sure you could go to Wal-mart and buy a Fram to replace it. They aren't very much. Good luck.

Oh and to the poster above me, I wouldn't keep sticking your air filter in the dishwasher if I where you. I watched a friend do that. He put it on the top rack and it blew most of the cotton filter material out of it.
i'm amazed at the misinformation here...

check this out. your filters have a %26quot;recommended replacement interval%26quot; for miles. no two driving conditions are alike, it might be true that you need to replace your filter. stop and go city driving is considered %26quot;extreme conditions%26quot;, and Washington DC could fit into that category.

It is not true that the dealership is trying to rip you off, the dealership is bringing something to your attention so you know...it's their job and they are bound by law to do so. besides, there is no money to be made off an air filter replacement...you pay for the filter and installation is free (where's the money in that?)

and the placement of the air filter on the xb is very easy. if i remember correctly, there are two little clips that you push back, slide out the filter and that's it. i worked at a toyota dealership as a service advisor and saw these engines all day long (same four cylinder in corollas). it would take you all of 4 minutes to inspect the filter for yourself.

and the comment about voiding the warranty? total crap. if you dont do maintinance and there is a failure due to that, then you are out of luck, but simply not doing what your book says WILL NOT cause the warranty to be voided. (i did all my own service on my VW since new, took the vehicle in for warranty work and never had a problem) besides, it's a toyota, those things are bulletproof.

bottom line, if you are questioning the recommendation of the dealership, get a second opinion. look for yourself or ask someone you trust.

  • Where is the cabin air filter on a 2003 Chevy Blazer?

I have an S-10 Blazer (aka not the Trailblazer). I have 122,000 miles probably should change it. But I don't know where it is. Any other weird filters? Of course I changed the oil and air filter. And I changed the gas filter around 90k. Thanks!
Where is the cabin air filter on a 2003 Chevy Blazer?
It's next to the bathroom fan.
Where is the cabin air filter on a 2003 Chevy Blazer?
I believe most cabin air filters are behind the glove compartment or under the hood on the passenger side. I just read something right now that said it's behind the glove box in the Chevy Blazer. Try there. They're usually easy to take out; a few screws is all. That's where mine was in my Corolla. Just a few clips holding a cover on. Took like 2 minutes to do.

    Hope this helps.

    Luxaire airconditioner air filter?

I cannot find my air filter for my airconditioner, its a luxaire I think its one that can go in the house in a lil closet with the unit outside, all the airconditioners I had they had a steel grate on the ceiling that you could open and change the air filter there but I dont have one and cant find the filter any ideas where it could be?
    Luxaire airconditioner air filter?
Go to the closet where the air handler (inside unit)is. There should be vents, open the vent, a filter might be there. If not, then look up under the air handler, you will see a filter that slides out, usually held in place by a clip.

You need to pull the dash because it's in it. That is something you would want the dealer to do or a qualifed shop. That is not one of those DIY projects.

I changed my air filter now I'm getting less mileage, any thoughts on why this is happening?

In some vehicles, it makes a big difference which way you put them in, even though they fit snugly both ways. Try turning it around..
I changed my air filter now I'm getting less mileage, any thoughts on why this is happening?
Be sure u have replaced it with the correct filter. Also bear in mind the filter could be faulty. Always replace with the filter your manufacturer recomends not with a conversion filter. Good luck and God bless
I changed my air filter now I'm getting less mileage, any thoughts on why this is happening?
Also make sure no rubber hoses came off the side or bottom of the air box when you did it.
did you install the correct filter? auto parts stores are notorious for making errors! is it the same kind you had previously? if not consider that. i trust you tightened everything up, newer vehicles are very dependent on precisely the correct amount of flow!!! good luck! BIG-G,,,
Because the mass air sensor is showing the computer more air and thus the computer is adding more gasoline to compensate.
those go in a certain way check to make sure that the arrows line up because if put in backwards it cuts down on the air flow in the intake
Make sure you have not purchased %26amp; installed the wrong filter. If the filter is smaller or has more resistance to airflow, your engine need to compensate for the loss of power due poor combustion by burning more fuel..

    Make sure:

you have the right filter size

the right amount of oil on it (if it has to be oiled)

you have not clotted any intake outlets by mistake

all tubes (coming form the engine) are plugged in to the air intake
if your car is equipped with a mass airflow sensor then it may require cleaning, you can pick up a can of MAF cleaner at most parts stores for under $3, just follow the directions on the can. if it doesnt have one then you may want to check the other filters like the pcv valve and fuel filter. also consider cleaning your throttle body to help improve response and fuel economy.
put in an original air filter not a cheaper version as it will cost you more in the long run lol
You may need to change your plugs and wires. Then have a mechanic put it on a machine to check the air/ fuel mixture. As you know the fuel we are burning now is bad stuff. The fuel will get better when they change over to summer mixture.

  • Will I hurt my bike to change the exhaust pipes and air filter w/out remapping the efi?

I just want to know if I will damage my 05 softail standard by changing the air intake and the exhaust pipes while I am waiting to remap the fuel injected carburator
Will I hurt my bike to change the exhaust pipes and air filter w/out remapping the efi?
No. But it will not give much, if any power increase. To make more horse power think of your engine as a big PUMP. You removed the restriction in the air intake and the output (exhaust), but never put more fuel in to make it work harder. It will pump out modest increases with out a new map for the EFI, but you need a Power Commander III(?) I think that's the current version, to remap the fuel at all rpms to really wake it up. and you need a dyno test if you are not using common pieces of replacement hardware fo r the intake filters and exhaust.
Will I hurt my bike to change the exhaust pipes and air filter w/out remapping the efi?
To accomplish what - more noise? Give the world a break, don't do it.

Why does my 89 jeep 4.0 dump oil in the air filter?

real good comp.and good hp. but i have to change air filter every week
Why does my 89 jeep 4.0 dump oil in the air filter?
Your PVC valve is leaking, stuck open or non-existant.
Why does my 89 jeep 4.0 dump oil in the air filter?
Crankcase breather plugged up,if you look on the valve cover you will see a tube that goes to the intake manifold this is the vacuum source, check to see if you have vacuum while the engine is running, just pull the tube out of the grommet and put your finger over the end of the tube do you feel any suction,if the answer is yes, then the valve cover is plugged up,if the answer is no then the vacuum passage in the intake manifold is plugged.
Sounds like the engine has a lot of miles on it. Blowby is caused by excessive wear in the pistons, rings, and cylinder walls. As the engine fires it forces exhaust gases past the rings into the crankcase. The PCV valve is a check valve that allows the exhaust gases to be pulled back into the carburerator to be reburned for emission reasons. You can check it by blowing into it. one way you can, one way you can't. Either way it's not the problem. Excess crankcase pressure(blowby)caries oil with it to the air filter where stays.
Either excessive blow-by from the engine, easy way to check that is to take the oil fill cap off while the engine is running. If it puffs smoke like a steam engine. Your 4.0 isn't long for this world. Or the PCV baffles inside the valve cover %26amp; PCV lines are clogged, causing the engine not to be able to vent properly. My 1989 Jeep had the same prblem and it ended up being the baffles %26amp; PCV lines being clogged. The PCV lines are avalible from your local Jeep dealer. Removing the valve cover and cleaning the baffles is straight foward as well.

    Mercedes-Benz diagnostic technican
I may be wrong, but doesn't your pcv (positive crankcase ventilation) valve dump back into your air cleaner. Find the hose that connects to the air cleaner and follow it back to the pcv valve and try replacing it. I know it isn't very expensive. Hope that helps you

Honda Odyssey engine light came on after oil and air filter change. Are they related?

I took my 2002 Odyssey to the dealer for oil and air filter change. The engine light came on the next day after the service. Does it have anything to do with the service performed? I did have problem with the dealer's oil change in the past. They did not fill my tires after I specifically told them to check my air pressure as I was taking my family with young children to Florida for vacation! Unfortunately, I live very far away from other Honda dealers. If I take my car back to the current dealer, they probably will charge me $50 to $100 for diagnosis. Any advice?
Honda Odyssey engine light came on after oil and air filter change. Are they related?
I would say yes, the check engine light is indicative that they have done something wrong. Take it back and insist the workshop foreman checks over your vehicle, and they let you watch to make sure they don't try and pull a dodgy on you. If necessary, have him look over it in the carpark - they may not let you in the workshop without safety boots and eye protection on.

They can't legally charge you for fixing a mistake they made... Check the oil level, check whether the filter is screwed on tight. Does the engine sound rattlier/noisier than before?

Edit: Oh hell, why do people who don't know what they're talking about answer these questions? The check engine light is serious business, it could be an o2 sensor, but so soon after an oil change is much more likely to be related to the engine lubrication system. Which is VITAL, and if there is a serious fault, could completely F.U.C.K your engine!
Honda Odyssey engine light came on after oil and air filter change. Are they related?
The engine light tells you that your emissions does not have the right Carbon Dioxide / Oxygen mixture coming from engine. That tells you something is amiss.

It could be the air cleaner not allowing enough oxygen into the engine, or allowing too much oxy into the engine by not being installed properly.

It could also be the O2 sensor in the exhaust system is bad. Or the computer isn't adjusting the engine timing, fuel richness correctly, or the computer could be giving false readings.

Take it to another mechanic if you don't trust the one you have been seeing.

Changing you filters is important, but probably not the cause of your problems.

If the fan is not working, your compressor will shut down 鈥?the problem could be with the fan motor or capacitor. Or one of the safety devices may have opened the circuit due a leak.

  • A/C not blowing cool air, filter never replaced, can this be fixed?

We have lived in an apartment for a year and not once changed the air filter, and we removed the old filter a long time ago.

Now it will not blow cool air at all.

Did we cause a major problem or will we be able to fix it by unclogging something.

I know its our fault, we had no idea that not changing it would affect the unit. And even not knowing that we still should have replaced it regularly.

We did put in a new filter.
A/C not blowing cool air, filter never replaced, can this be fixed?
Since it is still blowing air it sounds like your freon has leaked out slowly over the winter. The repair man will probably fill it with a dye so they can find the leak.
A/C not blowing cool air, filter never replaced, can this be fixed?
I had this happen to me a couple of years ago while renting an apartment too. I did call the maintenance group and they sent a contractor out. The unit had to be cleaned and refilled with freon. You may have done nothing wrong. If your renting, be sure to let your management company know.
when you removed the filter all the dust collected on the cooling fins so its probably clogged, [no air flow] the fins will have to be cleaned, call the land lord

the filter needs to be changed ever month
HVAC Tech.: Boy what answers you can get here from folks who know nothing about the subject! As to your problem, the maintenance is usually provided by the complex so you did nothing wrong. However you may want to ask for the filter to be changed each month for your own health and comfort. If you are not on a chill water system, you have to pay for the electricity the a/c system uses, and it will use less if the filter is changed EVERY month. Because you rent, they own the unit and are responsible for its' up keep. Right now the evaporator coil is stopped up with all the dirt the filters would have caught. The blower fins will also be full of it and unable to move any air. Best of Luck!
You need to open up the air handler and clean the evaporator coil. Otherwise it will just freeze up each time you try to use the AC.

And make sure the filter is changed religiously each month, otherwise you're wasting a lot more money in electricity.
You messed up when you took out the old filter and didn't put in a new one, most likely now you willhave to have the unit cleaned cause the dirt that would have been caught by the filter has now clogged the inside coils causing no airflow

What might cause a 94 ford explorer to chok while idling after spark plugs are changed, new oil and air filter?

my truck will start fine but it slows like someone is choking the engin. just changed the spark plugs and new air filter with an oil change. new alterniator. so yeah i cant seem to find the problem? could my timeing be off? well thanks.
What might cause a 94 ford explorer to chok while idling after spark plugs are changed, new oil and air filter?
First off, make this a little more clear, did it have the problem before you did the work? If so and this is what you were trying to fix, it sounds like a bad idol air control valve. If the problem was not there before, make sure all the plug wires are installed correctly, all your vacuum hoses are intact, No wires unplugged from mass air flow sensor and such as that. I dought very seriously it is the timing if it hasn't been tampered with. Also, DO NOT attempt to adjust the idol on this vehicle, you will screw it up, it is factory set and no need for adjustment.
What might cause a 94 ford explorer to chok while idling after spark plugs are changed, new oil and air filter?
When I ran into the first %26quot;idol%26quot; in your post, I thought it was a typo but the second occurrence has proven that you are an ignoramus, and should not write unless your life depends on it!

    It's %26quot;IDLE%26quot;, dummy.

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Probably one of the vacuum lines was accidentally disconnected while changing the plugs and filter.
I don't know what you mean by %26quot;choke while idling%26quot; If you mean it slowly stalls out it could be the idling needs advanced a little or you might want to check the timing (it is a part of the tune up.) Check timing first.

Now that the plugs have been replaced and air filter changed it may be running so good that the clogged fuel filter can't keep up with the new demand.

Start with timing, change the fuel filter, then check the idle.
Have you changed the fuel filter? When you go to the parts store let them look it up to make sure there is only one. It is usually one in the fuel line running from the back to the front, I think it was under the driver on my dads 94 F150, but make sure there isn't one also under the hood in the engine compartment...
Are you sure the spark plug wires are connected correctly?
You have a mass air flow meter concern this is what controls the fuel since it meters how much air is entering the engine

Is it a drop in filter or a cone? For the cones you will have to replace the airbox with a special bracket to mate the filter and the intake tube together.
There are 4 clips that you must unclip on the airbox, take out your stock air filter and replace with the new one. Close box firmly and reclip. You are done.
first remove the air filter housing on the left hand side as you look at the engine . then connect your new kn filter to the main air duct and secure it with clips and brackets in you kit

Air Filter, I was Changing my cars air filter and I touched the clean side of the filter with dirty fingers?

from touching under the hood and got a few small dirt smudges on the clean side of filter. I know this will get sucked into the engine. Do you think its enough to cause any damage or will it just burn off? not a lot of dirt just more than the zero I would like to have gotten on it. Thanks
Air Filter, I was Changing my cars air filter and I touched the clean side of the filter with dirty fingers?
Blow it out with compressed air or clean it out as best you can, it is not cause for great alarm if its as minute as you say. It will not cause any damage if you clean it at best you can. good luck
Air Filter, I was Changing my cars air filter and I touched the clean side of the filter with dirty fingers?
    No Worries,

If it's just a grease smudge like you got on your T-shirt, then it's totally harmless.

There is nothing in this area to burn off.

Only cold fresh air enters through here.
No damage. It'll either burn off or the oil will suck it up.
If the engine has not yet been started then you can remove the filter and clean it off. If it is just dust a good shaking might be enough to do it. If it is grease, then you can probably get rid of it with a standard paint thinner (NOT lacquer thinner) and let it dry. Just wet a paint brush with the thinner and brush away the dirt, then pour some through from the top and it will remove the balance. That will take away any large particles and any stains will not matter. Let the filter dry before re-installing it.

If all you did was get a tiny bit of dirt on your fingers it will not have any serious effect on the engine.

Small particles will first get sucked into the cylinders and most will be burned away and leave in the exhaust, others will get picked up by the oil and then the oil filter will catch them.

Anything left will be of no consequence, since you started with such a tiny amount.

Clean the air filter as needed. After each ride if you ride in dusty conditions. Every couple of weeks on normal conditions. Change the air filter once a year.

You don't need to change jets as any part of routine maintenance. You only change the jets if you make engine modifications like aftermarket exhaust or internal engine modifications.

Adam, if you buy one, invest in a manual. So many people ask technical questions about their bikes that can be found in a manual.

It will provide you with all the relevent details ie; servicing intervals, fault finding etc!

Like the other answers, if you are punishing it on the dirt. Change your clean your air filter.

Oil wise, I wouldn't do it after every. I would say every 500kms if you have ridden it hard and your oil has darkened.

This is an indication of your oil becoming dirty, but by no means bad. Change your filter as well!
You should change your oil after every ride right after you wash the bike and get ready to put it away if you want it to last. You need to clean your air filter after every ride also. It doesnt matter how tall you are it is if you can handle the power. Why not buy a YZF 450 or a CRF 450 they are the best bikes around and give the least amount of problems and last
In dusty conditions, you should clean the air filter after each ride. Oil and oil filter every three months or if it smells burnt. Carburetor jets should not be a problem if you store the bike properly.

I'm assuming you have no experience from the question. A 450 is a whole lot of bike for a beginner. I would shop in the 200-250cc range. Make sure you can reach the ground while sitting in the saddle.

Save yourself frustration by buying a shop manual.

Where is the cabin air filter on my 2003 mustang?
close to or under glove box

I believe they are on the lower passenger side by the air box. Get a Chilton's or Haynes repair manual and they will have a pictorial diagram. Good luck

Every when do you need to change the air filter on the bike?

Also they tell me bikes have reserve tank (gas) how do I access that? ZX6R 2007

In my opinion the air filter is the most under-rated piece of kit on your bike. If your racing (and this is the racing section.) You should either change or clean your filter every race. the simple fact is, to burn fuel you need air (clean air). I have seen people strip a bike down to see why its not running right when all that was required was to replace the air filter.

as for the reserve. its usually just a case of turning the fuel tap round. your better not using the reserve as it just draws the gunk and rubbish from your fuel tank into the system. keep the bike topped up instead.

Depends on what conditions you are riding in. If it is extremely dusty all the time then I would say check it every 3 weeks or so. Just check it periodically and if you see that it is dirty, clean it (if you have a re-usable filter) and if you do clean it, remember to add the filter oil onto it (if required). As far as the reserve goes, what you are looking for is a device called a %26quot;petcock%26quot; and I am not certain where they are on a 07 ninja, look for a dial that says %26quot;on, off, res%26quot; on it. It should be located somewhere near your gas tank.

How do you know its time to rplace and change your air conditioner filter?

Its been really hot in our house and the air is on but we cant feel it blowing at all i was thinking if we should call someone to fix i but i took a look at the filter and its filthy ,could that be the problem

Most definitely. Before every season you should remove your air conditioner filter and give it a good cleaning. If you have a window unit or one with a permanent removable filter, take it out, clean all of the dust and dirt off of it, and then get into it with a scrub brush or pressure washer and get the crud out of the small mesh that's in the filter. Basically your air conditioner is choking, which can result in less cooling, higher energy bills and a shorter life of your air conditioner.

I was a smoker and I'd remove and clean my air conditioner filter every month and it provided me with reliable and cool service.

Another option is to check the external venting as well to make sure they're not blocked or choked with crud too.

Wouldn't hurt to try that first. It would be the cheapest solution
