How to change air filter in a 2003 mercedes E320?

Anyone know how to open the plastic covers of a 2003 Mercedes E320? It is not screwed down. It seems to be snapped on. How to unsnap. I don%26#039;t want to break anything.|||Remove the air intake tubes on the left and right sides. Pull the complete air filter housing up off the rubber mounts. Turn the air filter house upside down and there will be 4 T20 torx head screws on both sides. Unscrew them and remove. Install new air filters and put housing back on in reverse order.|||Just disconnect the hoses and pull it up. To access the 2 air filters, you have to unscrew the underside covers ( flip the cover over ).

Do air flow induction kits for cars really make a difference? Is it worth changing them?

I am due for a service so will be changing my air filter as part of the service. The air filter is the standard audi a3 air filter. Someone suggested getting a K%26amp;N Induction kit or a pipercross induction kit but are they really worth it?

Do they actually make a difference to the cars performance?|||The trouble with induction kits is they are great on the race track but for normal driving they suck hot air from under the bonnet, especially when stuck in traffic.

I had trouble with a bit of pinking with one of my cars, and was told by a tune up engineer that i would be far better of with something like a K%26amp;N replacement panel filter, as it utilizes the cars original induction system which after the millions of pounds of development they have invested would be more than fine.

Unless you do high revving driving all over the place a replacement panel filter will do just the job, you just would not really notice the difference between them. And by the way i have spent more money on this stuff than i care to think of.|||Yes they do. K%26amp;N are very good but you might have to enrich the mixture to get the full benefit|||it will get more air .wich means a better burn .and gives more power.get it chipt up aswell thay will give you more power and a better top end.do both yehaaaaaar|||i had one on my first car (festa 1.25 zetec) which made it quicker off the mark but slower top end. hope this helps|||On its own, it might even cost you some performance. It%26#039;s onlr really worth doing if you fit a performance exhaust, by which I mean a proper sports system, not just a Chav back box, and get the ECU remapped with the car on a rolling road. Doing this might get you another 20-30bhp, with the car still driving properly.|||I personally don%26#039;t think they are worth the extra money you have to spend to get the high flow system as you might gain 5 or 6 horse from it and spend $150 to $200 to get it when you can put the K%26amp;N regular filter in your present airbox and get almost the same increase in horsepower.

Do i need to change air filter in car even tho air condition doesn't work?

so even tho i dont use my car%26#039;s air condition, does the air filter in car need to be changed? thanks|||The air filter is not related to the air conditioning. It filters the air which flows into the engine. You should replace it at the manufacturer suggested interval or when it gets reasonably dirty.

The filter for the cabin air (air con, heater, vents) is often called a pollen filter and it filters the air which comes into the passenger compartment. It does this all the time, not just when the air conditioning is on. This should also be replaced at the manufacturer recommended interval.

Your vehicle may not have a pollen filter but all vehicles have an air filter.|||if you are talking about the engine air filter yes you do, it has nothing to do with the air conditioning. if you are talking about the in cabin air filter, the manufacturer recommends replacement once a year it filters the air if you use the vents, air conditioning or heat, so yes again.|||Yes, your car needs clean air intake and if your filter is dirty it can%26#039;t get clean air. Dirt roads and trash off the roads can make your air filter dirty. And by not having a clean air filter your car will run ruff.|||engine air filter yes. cabin air filter still yes.

Just got my oil and air filter changed and now my 99 civic makes a noise?

Please help! It makes a noise like a low roar when I accelerate. I know it%26#039;s not the muffler because it doesn%26#039;t come from there (I%26#039;ve had a bad muffler before). What could it be? Should I take it back to where I had the oil and air filter changed?|||How often have you changed your air filter?

Sounds to me you have been driving around with a real dirty, clogged air filter. The new air filter flows air better and the sound you are hearing is from the intake. sorta sounds like cold air intakes but at a stock level.|||you better check the oil to see if they filled it all the way.|||im certain its the cause of the new air filter.|||I was also facing similar problem with my bike, one my friend suggested me one effective lubricant aditive called Musscle MT-10

has actualy taken care of my problem.

Musscle MT-10 reduces friction to agreat extent which result in less wear n%26#039; tear of bearings, less generation of heat, and also low maintenance cost.

Musscle MT-10 increases the productivity and life of the machine. It smoothens the vehicle as well as help to incrase overall average.

How do you change filter of Honeywell Hepa Air Cleaner?

i want to buy Honeywell Hepa Air Cleaner but i dont%26#039; know if i would be able to change air filters for it regularly. ( by myself)|||Honeywell hepa air cleaners are very good quality air filters.

read a review i found just by googling it.

Designed for ultra-quiet, high-speed air purifying it works best for rooms up to 225 square feet. It has an Intelli-Check indicator that lets you know when the filter needs to be cleaned. It features two filtration systems; a true HEPA filter, and a carbon pre-filter that keeps larger particles from clogging the HEPA filter and helps reduce household odors. The SilentComfort Permanent purifier is equipped with a 3-speed fan that speedily removes dust, pollen, tobacco smoke, and cat dander from the air. It also helps reduce airborne germs, bacteria, mold spores and fungus with up to 100-percent efficiency as well.

This unit draws the air in through the lower vents and expels clean air through the upper vents. The clean air that is released back into the room doesn%26#039;t create the cool draft that some of the other models do.

It is very sturdy, a little bulky, but not too heavy to put in other rooms from time to time when you feel the need to relocate it.|||The Honeywell is a low quality unit with very expensive filters. You may want to look at the Sun Pure SP-20C at http://www.allergy-relief-air-purifier.c鈥?/a> Easy to maintain and truly the top of the line air purifier. There are even videos to show you how to maintain the unit. The filter is good for 2 years and the UV bulbs are good for one year at a cost of $145. I hope this helps.

Do I need to change my cabin air filter?

I was wondering what impact not replacing my cabin air filter has on my car. I know changing the other filters such as engine air and oil filters are essential...

I changed my cabin air filter once but neglected to for my most recent interval and its tens of thousands of miles past the interval...

Am I doing any serious damage to my car? Or am I just breathing dirty air?|||Technically, you could concievably do damage over the long term to the HVAC blower motor. Now, don%26#039;t get your panties in a bunch it isn%26#039;t life or death. What you will notice is that airflow from your dash vents will decrease as fresh air can%26#039;t get through the cabin air filter. You don%26#039;t say what kind of car you have, so I don%26#039;t know if the air going into the HVAC system is filtered or if the filter is after the HVAC system and filtering air directly before it gets blown into the passenger compartment. Are you doing serious damage by not changing it? No. Are you breathing dirty air? Only if you pull the filter completely out. Think about it...would a dirty filter actually flow more dirty air? No. For the price of a filter, why not just step up to the plate and do it?|||just dirty air

it can%26#039;t hurt the car at all, and they can last a long time and still work fine|||just breathing dirty air|||if you have allergies it is a good idea otherwise I doubt it matters that much|||yeesh.

Ok... the dirty air folks don%26#039;t quite have it.

The filter, while IT is dirty, will not allow the dirty air to PASS THROUGH it. Your filter will eventually get clogged, and not allow as much air to pass through it causing your ventilation to not work properly.

Depending on the air quality, dust, etc. you don%26#039;t have to worry about changing it at EVERY interval. You should be okay if you missed one changing.

Hope this helps!|||it will be fine if you havnt changed the filter for a few intervals, they dont tend to clog in normal driving conditions and there more of a pollen filter than anything else to help those with pollen allergies thats why some people call them pollen filters

2004 Chrysler Sebring idle is racing after air filter change?

I changed the air filter and now the idle is racing. It happened the last time I change the filter and ended up taking to the dealer. They said it was a vacumm hose had come loose. I checked all around and cannot see anything that got unplugged by mistake. Where would a hose be that might cause the idle to race. The only thing that was unplugged was the hose to the air filter canister and a small little sensor that was plugged into the breathr tube going into the throttle body. I have checked everywhere under the hood and I cannot see anything unplugged or loose. This is the second time that this has happened while changing the air filter and it is maddening.|||Something is not hooked up. You may have a vacuum leak somewhere. You can also use propane to find this leak. You take an unlit propane torch and start running it around certain areas (Letting the propane flow). When you get close to the leak, the engine will change pitch. You can also use carb cleaner and starting fluid, but propane is the safest. Don%26#039;t disregard this answer B/C I am a female. My husband is a mechanic with over 15 years experience and this is what he told me to say. Good luck!|||this sounds like a vaccum leak...under the hood, most likely on the hood but if not then you will see a white sticker which gives the vaccum hose routing diagram...just look there and follow the diagram and you will find the hose which is disconnected.

Question about oil change and air filter?

Hi guys, i was at jiffy lube earlier, i asked for an oil change and they also changed my air filter... on the sheet it says Signature SVC Full Syn, im guessing it%26#039;s the new oil.. but a little below that it says PZL Synthetic 5w30 55 Gal...

My question is... both of them is correct right..?

Also... would the car go faster with this 70 dollar oil i requested? and how does changing the air filter works?|||when the air filter is clogged the car can not get the correct amount of air gas mix so it uses more fuel and no the car will not go faster|||a dirty air filter cuts down on fuel mileage, they gave you a full synthetic oil change and the oil they used was penzoil out of a 55 gal drum.you will never ever notice the difference between synthetic and regular oil neither will your car.|||sinthetic is good on a new car or truck on an old one it will not help. jiffylube is worst place to get an oil change or anything else.|||synthetic oil will not make the car faster it will however lubricate the internal engine parts better and for a longer period of time (like 7500miles instead of 3500). as far as the bill goes the price is about right for a full synthetic oil change. an air filter is usually checked when an oil change is done it costs about 3 to 10 dollars and if its dirty they will probably change it. my question to you is why didn%26#039;t you do any research about synthetic oil before you spent 70$. theres no use in felling ripped off when you didn%26#039;t know what to expect in the first place. anyway good luck hope this helped.|||oil change will not make the car go faster....and air filter works just like it says it filters the air going into the motor... a dirty one will and can slow the flow of air which will make the car use fuel and run slower...... and really you could have done that and should do it more offen or every time you do a oil change.....learn how to do it your self which is easy... will save you half of what your paying to have it done... and sorry it woul d be better to do it some where beside jiffy ... call a autozone and you will see what is really cost to do the job|||Having an engine that is clean inside and out runs the best. The newer synthetics are miraculous because they keep the inner workings of the engine cleanest and reduce friction and heat, which causes the best performance and fuel efficiency. When an air filter gets dirty, the vacuum created by the running engine is interfered with and causes a change in the fuel/air mixture ratio causing loss of efficiency. To put it differently, the engine cannot breathe the way it is designed to. A poorly tuned or inefficient burning causes premature wearing of catalytic converter and exhaust system. Good Luck!!!|||The oil companies claim the fully synthetic is better than regular oil. It%26#039;s doubtful that you%26#039;ll go any faster with the different oil, however it%26#039;s probably better for your engine to use the synthetic.

I%26#039;ve also heard that synthetic is better to use in the winter time, if you have cold winters where you live.|||Well the air filter lets the engine breath easier, and saves gas,it%26#039;s like you or i with a stuffed up nose,it%26#039;s harder for us to breath, will it be faster? Not noticeably but you may get more miles to the gallon,as far a the oil goes,i never EVER let anyone change mine,my brother is ASE certified his 1st job starting out as the being a wrench monkey was in a Jiffy Lube,a guy he worked with,didn%26#039;t change the oil filter, and put old oil in it,then one day the same guy, forgot to put the oil plug back on the pan,the car was knocking so bad until Bob my brother said shut it off,you dumb fuc, there ain%26#039;t no oil in it,well needless to say the guy was fired,he almost destroyed a customers engine,so way to many horror stories,it%26#039;ll be fine, but you should have a family member or someone you can trust to do it for now on.

Is changing out your cabin air filter important?

does it have any effect on the life of your AC system or is it just to keep the inside air cleaner? if it is important what kinds of things could go wrong if you dont , and how often in general do you need to change it?|||First off I have to say that I am not a professional, but I have spent alot of money on cars.

It%26#039;s Sunday and the big basketball game is this afternoon, but you can forget about getting tickets. So it%26#039;s gather the crowd and drive to the sports bar. Minutes into the ride, the windshield is so foggy, you%26#039;ve got to hit the Defrost button. But why? The panel is set to outside air for heater operation, and there are no smokers in the car. You put your hand over the defroster outlets and there%26#039;s hardly any airflow. When you turn the blower switch to high, the noise level goes up but the airflow is still weak.

Maybe you need to change the cabin air filter. If it%26#039;s plugged, the passenger compartment might as well be a sealed cabin--and with a carload of friends the glass will fog in minutes. Filter life depends on the air quality in your area, but a year, or 12,000 to 15,000 miles, typically is the recommended replacement interval.

Cabin air filter? In the late 1980s and early 1990s, only some European luxury cars had them. It%26#039;s more common on newer cars. In many premium cars, there may be two filters, even three. Sometimes they%26#039;re parallel (side by side), sometimes they%26#039;re in series (one after the other, with some space in between). Sometimes they%26#039;re nowhere near each other

What are the benefits of changing your air filter?

Improved gas mileage!|||Basic answer is a dirty air filter restricts air flow to the combustion chamber resulting in poor performance ans decreased fuel mileage|||Improved gas mileage, a cleaner-running engine, and a small gain in horsepower. Upgrading to like a K%26amp;N stlye air filter will give you a more drastic and noticiable increase in all though.|||save gas, longer engine life, and better performance.|||what are the benefits of changing your socks or your underwear the same goes dirt....dirt on your skin is nothing dirt in your motor costly|||more, cleaner air.|||In addition to the above (improved gas mileage, more HP), your vehicle will also start easier and idle better. If you let your filter go to long, you will start smelling fuel because it%26#039;s running too rich(too much fuel, not enough air). And if your city requires emissions testing, you could fail your emissions test. It increases the amount of pollutants into the air, causing humans to breathe harder.|||inproved efficiency, gain few hp|||less engine wear,,improoved gas mileage,,extended spark plug life ,, smoother running , increased power,.....|||keeps the crankcase oil cleaner and helps keep gas mileage at its best.

air filter on my bike.|||Hi.

1. First, remove the gas tank

2. Remove the 10mm bolts around the outside of the air filter cover.

3. Lift the cover off. Just leave it dangling in the bike, still connected by the breather hose.

4. The air filter element is foam enclosed in a plastic frame. Be careful not to puncture or damage the foam or you%26#039;ll have to replace it.

How often should I change my air filter in my SUV?

I have a 2004 Saturn View and I have pretty much kept up on my oil changes. But I don%26#039;t ever remember having my air filter changed.|||I change the one on my truck every 6k. The filter turns completely gray by 6k on mine.|||Normally you should have it cleaned or replaced with every oil change, but everyone%26#039;s opinion varies some shops offer this service when you get the oil changed|||Should be every service - 12 months or 10-12k miles. They are usually pretty cheap to buy and easy to fit so no real reason not to!|||If you drive gravel roads and the car is always covered with road dust, change it with every oil change. Otherwise 10K is soon enough. Take a piece of masking tape and write down the last change mileage. Stick that tape on the air cleaner cover..|||At least every 10,000 miles|||There is really no mileage interval it really just depends on your environment conditions as to when the filter gets dirty ie city driving, dirt roads ect.i have 19k on my car and the filter still looks as new.Being an 04 it should have defiantly been changed out a few times. just look to see if its caked with black dirt/fuzz if it is then its a good idea to replace.Theres nothing wrong with changing it sooner than it needs to be, such as every 12k miles it won%26#039;t hurt it, just spending extra $$ on something not yet needed.

My father was changing my spark plugs on my minivan, town and country 2000 and he also changed the air filter?

now he says the hose to the air filter was corroted and old so we did not have one handy, he put tape on the hose (little small hose I suppose that goes next to air filter) this morning when i was driving the car, there were some fumes and my engine light came on also the speedometer did not go past 40 miles per hour, it was driving better before can this be the problem?|||probably left a rag in the air box, did %26quot;dad use spray cleaner on the engine, like the air box or the rotted hose, that%26#039;s probably the fumes, have the engine scanned for the fault codes, probably has a wire crossed|||nope wouldnt do it but might have misplace a plug wire or didnt repalce something he removed plugs or air filter wouldnt do it|||I doubt it sounds like a sensor has went bad go to your local auto parts they will give you free diagnostic check|||depends what engine light came on! is it one with an oil can on it? or a battery? temperature? . let me know and go from there.

If the smoke is blue-ish then it means its not burning the fuel properly and oils getting burned instead if it%26#039;s running bad and not accelerating well especially from stationary then probably the gap in the plug leads may need checked or the leads have put on incorrectly.

There%26#039;s a huge hose coming right out of it. There are clips on the right side of the black lid and on the other side (the inside side of the black box) looks like there are hinges. I have not yet tried taking the cover off since it looks like the hose is somehow keeping it shut (in addition to the clips) and on the hinge side there are screws.

Before taking opening it, is there something that should be done? Should I take the hose off and unscrew the screw?|||If you can%26#039;t sneak the filter in place because the hose won%26#039;t let you raise the filter cover up enough, remove the hose. Will changing the air filter in my car alone improve performance?

No guarantees but it can%26#039;t hurt either.|||not a great deal but it wont hurt|||a little. but not much you ll notice a difference in throttle response. do an exhaust after that and a performance chip.|||If you change it to a K%26amp;N air filter, you will get maybe 1-3 hp and a little better gas mileage, but nothing you would actually notice..|||Yes - changing to a new standard one will improve performance just as its clean. Changing to a sports one will be even better - basicaly more air gets into the mix, the carb adjusts and puts more fuel in to keep the ratios correct, so you get a bigger bang and better performance.|||yes it does, the performance increases are minimal but it does help. mostly it will help fuel economy because the air will move more freely to the engine.|||only if you use a k%26amp;n filter ............but not my much and it will sound good when you rag it !!|||Try a new Fram cleanable air filter (similar to K and N air filters). It will give you free flow of air.

http://stores.channeladvisor.com/USASUPE鈥?/a>|||Only if the old one was blocked|||yes|||Yes, but the problem is by how much.

Replacing a clogged air filter will give you a better boost than a regularly replaced filter. Although that just brings you back to targetted performance, not beyond.

If you are not sure, make sure your car is running optimally, as designed (i.e. tune up, oil change, etc.) before looking into trying to improve.

Then you%26#039;ll probably realize there%26#039;s not much you can do to make drastic performance improvements.

Try finding online communities that focus on your car to learn of small boosts you can collect for an overall incremental improvement, with the requisite compromises.

A general example is to %26quot;overinflate%26quot; tires towards the upper limit of the recommended pressure. This will improve your mileage, but at the cost of comfort.

Good luck!|||not enough to really notice it, a K%26amp;N filter in your stock airbox will help some as it lets the engine breathe better.|||If you swap it for a standard replacment then there will be no diffrence unless the old one was really dirty.

If you swap it with a performance panel filter/ cone filter or induction kit. ( See K%26amp;N filter for info and stats) then there may be a slight increase in perfomance depending or car and engine.

Thank you!|||If there%26#039;s a metal webbing on one side over the top of the paper element, that%26#039;s the side that goes toward the engine. The reason is that you don%26#039;t want anything to get sucked into the engine including the air filter element itself if it were to get old and start decomposing. The bigger folded paper pleats side should point toward the incoming air stream to be filtered.

thanking you,

How does changing the air filter of the motor engine increases the efficency in terms of output torque?

clean filter more air more power more torque !|||It is a matter of fuel efficiency... If you have less air getting into the engine and the same amt of fuel, then the engine runs rich and wastes gas. (produces black smoke).

Of course with modern fuel control systems, the mixture is automatically leaned to produce good combustion, but then you have less fuel going into the engine than you really need for sufficient power so power is reduced.

Honestly the difference in HP is only like 1 or 2... nothing major.

Put it in the garage and you%26#039;ll have it if you ever sell the car to someone.|||I WOULD RECAMEND YOU CHANGE IT EVERY 2 TIMES U CHANGE UR OIL.|||alot depends on where you drive if you bougt the k%26amp;n just put it in you didnt buy the one in the car it came with it .. you spent the money on the other filter so might as well use it and get the best mpg you can|||Being brand new, it has a book. Usually toward the back of the book it has maintenance schedules. Read it. It will say something on the order of %26quot;After X miles, or Y months, change the air filter.%26quot;|||Every time you change the oil check the air filter, when you see it start to get dirty then replace it. When you get the K%26amp;N filter make sure and keep the instructions which show you how to clean it, you should not have to replace that filter, just keep it clean.|||i believe it has to be at least 3000 or 3 months after driving it|||A very good idea is to put it in now. A filter is $10. The K%26amp;N gives you more horsepower as well.

No reason not to change now|||just change it...you know u want to...i hereby give u permision not to feel guilty about tossing out the stock one...

Changing air filter on a 98 nissan maxima?

where is it located and how do i do it?|||Don%26#039;t know about your stated car but air filters are usually located in black plastic box shaped containers. There wil be a big hose going to it and another part that will have an open end to let the air in. Usually has clips or screws that hold it closed. Remove the clips/screws and open it up. The filter will be sitting right there, just lift it out being careful to keep it flat so the dirt/dust and other crap doesn%26#039;t fall into the air box. Remember which way it is facing and replace with a new one. Really simple to do. Get under there and look around you%26#039;re bound to see it.

FOrd fiesta 1996 GHIA AIR FILTER CHANGING?

Hello, i got a universal air filter induction thing for a ford fiesta 1996 ghia 1.25. And there is a MAS sensor and also a write going to the air filter, which i think it%26#039;s the temp sensor. but the new air filter does not have a thing to put that temp sensor? i also looked at K%26amp;N Air filter, which is for that car.. what is the difference? or can i use the air filter i got and don%26#039;t use the temp sensor? Thanks|||Why on earth would you try to attach a performance item to this shed?

Disconnect the temperature sensor %26amp; the car won%26#039;t run.

If you want the same effect, just take the old air filter out %26amp; leave it out - it won%26#039;t do any harm.

HOW MANY MILES BEFORE CHANGING AIR FILTER ON O7 SONATA HYUNDAI?

I believe it calls for a change at 30,000 miles... but in dusty conditions it could need changed at 10,000 miles .... more or less.|||15,000 miles|||30,000|||typically the change interval is given as a time span 15-30k. in dusty areas, 15, in easy use areas, 30k hwy driving allows the longer span, city driving requires the shortened span.|||Depends on your area and driving conditions. No later thatn 30k but may need sooner. Dusty conditions require more frequent changes. have it checked at every oil change and monitor it.|||I belive its 30,000 but not sure.

Gas mileage decreased after changing the air filter. What would cause this?

Your mileage will/should increase with the better air flow. What can cause this, Driving styles, colder weather, Etc. are you the only one driving it? It can be the other persons driving habits like jack rabbit starts, Going from the gas to the brake with no coasting. So it could be many things but the clean new air filter should not be one of them unless you knocked the wires off the air flow meter. But then the check engine light would come on depending on the year. What year, make %26amp; model, and how many miles are on what you have? That would help me to better answer your question.|||I would just wait for the cars computer to get used the change in air flow, your old filter must have bean pretty dirty. i would drive the car on the high way for a bit so the computer can adjust it self. If this does not do anything than get the computer scanned by a mechanic.|||Did you have an oil change at the same time??? Some oils will cause engines to lose MPG%26#039;s. Also. there is the possibilty that the design of your replacement filter is more restrictive than the dirty one you replaced. I hope you are using genuine Subaru parts! Also, locate and clean your idle air control valve. The VECI map under your hood should show you where is it This will cause waste of fuel, especially at idle and under acceleration. Good Luck!!|||10 days? You can%26#039;t average fuel economy out over 10 days. Even small changes in driving habits can have a big impact. It needs to be averaged out over months.|||Let%26#039;s look at it this way.

You had a dirty air filter letting less air in and the engine computer adjusted by adding less fuel to the mix.

Now, you have more air coming in and the computer adjusts by adding more fuel to compensate.

While I am not saying not to change dirty air filters, this is the trade off at times, assuming nothing else has changed..

Changing cabin air filter in car?

I%26#039;m going to change my cabin air filters in my honda civic. Did anyone even notice a difference in the air quality after changing the cabin air filter?|||I have, huge difference|||Yeah in a work truck. It was plugged with dirt from construction sites.

If there is minor problem in throttle body of the car, does changing air filter helps?

as per honda dealer i have to change throttle body and its about 800 dollars. i already cleaned throttle body but it didn%26#039;t help? any suggestions or help/|||This sounds like a really newer Honda????????

If so it has an electronic throttle. NEVER EVER ever put any chemicals/cleaners/anything inside these. Electronics will be damaged and your out another $800.

If not electronic go junkyard, probably$50 or less.|||fuel and air filters and a bottle of fuel treatment and stop going to dealership for work.. call three shops and ask what they charged for same job and you will see why but id try fuel an dair and a fuel treatment and even a better octane gas.and really its not a hard job to replace it so you could do it if you had a mind to|||whats wrong?

if throttle body is bad, ? then nothing going to fix it other than changing throttle body. Go to salvage and pull one off there, get it a whole lot cheaper, or check ebay, honda parts are a dime a dozen.|||changing the air filter more than likely wont help it much unless the filter is just so clogged up that it cant get any air,if you need a throttle body you,ll have to get one for it,you can get those a lot cheaper than 800 bucks though,id check through some parts stores before i went and paid that much for one, good luck.

Changing air filter with aftermarket filter damage engine and how? if it doesnt dn how can u replace it?

i have a toyota echo 2003, i saw my airfilter bow and it has plugs, and sensors, if i change to a K%26amp;N filter where do i plug da original plug sensors?|||K%26amp;N air filters need to be cleaned and re-oiled on a routine basis. If you incorrectly apply the oil to the filter and don%26#039;t follow all the directions just right, you risk contaminating the MAF sensor with filter oil. Sometime you can clean the MAF, sometimes it%26#039;s destroyed by the oil. Those MAF sensors are expensive.

I ask you is it really worth the trouble to fiddle with this? Just stick with a paper element and drive your car.|||If you live in a place with little dust you can probably get away with a K%26amp;N filter. They have less restriction because they don%26#039;t filter as well as proper filters do.

Here in dusty Arizona K%26amp;N filters earn sneers from most enthusiasts. A friend put a replacement conventional filter in his Volvo and the valves started leaking within a year - the filter had a tear in it and the sand chewed his valves up. The filter manufacturer paid for the repair.

I never saw the attraction of K%26amp;N filters. The reduction in restriction is insignificant in normal use, and the power difference is only measurable at full power.|||The K%26amp;N air filter needed for your car is a 33-2211. It is a drop-in filter meaning you just put it in where the old one was. The plug sensors you mention is most likely the mass air flow sensor. It is not directly connected to the filter but to the air box or arm leading to the airbox. A K%26amp;N filter will not damage your car. In fact, even a dirty K%26amp;N filter performs better than most new plain filters.

By the way, you would use the K%26amp;N oil filter HP-1003.|||some need jumped, ask K%26amp;N they sell em%26#039; they know what you need to hook you up

What are the steps for changing my air filter in my 2005 Stratus 4cyl DOHC?

I can release the filter part of the way from the housing but it wil not come out all the way. Do I need to take the intake hose loose or open up the body that houses the filter, or both?|||this should be fairly simple there will be a square box on the right side of the engine compartment with a tube connecting into the engine the box is what holds your air filter some are held by 4 phillips head screws and some by clips that just snap off easily pull out the foam and paper filter inside and replace with your new one and just put the cover back on and tighten all the screws. The NAPA part number for a gold filter in that is a FL6677 and it cost about 13-15 dollars. good luck any other questions e-mail me|||take apart whatever is in your way, replace filter.|||What they fail to mention is that you have to look at the box, are there tabs on the back that you have to push the air box rea rward to be able to lift off???????|||I really want to know. What is this about changing the air filter to make my car faster and more fuel efficient?

what is the downside to installing this other air filter?|||I%26#039;m 68 and a female but I%26#039;ve taken care of my vehicles for a long time. As far as I%26#039;m concerned there is NO downside to changing your air filter. It is able to intake more oxygen, therefore running more efficiently. I check mine everytime I have the oil changed. Sometimes you can just %26quot;bang%26quot; the dirty residue out of them. It is very importanr to keep a clean one. Hope this helps!! I know it%26#039;s not really a technical answer but one with much experience! :-)

Gayle R|||you move better when you breath so dose your car|||K %26amp; N is the best

it will give slightly better gas milage with a proper oil change|||it like you, you eat and you need bathroom also.|||When your air filter is clean, your car gets a steady stream of fresh clean air to mix with the fuel as it goes into the engine. When the air filter is dirty, the flow of air is reduced and there are more impurities in the air. The net result is reduced fuel efficiency (and perhaps performance).

An filter designed to improve the flow of air could result in a small improvement in fuel economy and/or performance. But the improvement may not be great enough to pay for the filter over the long run.

Also be careful of having your air filter changed at a lube and oil shop. These shops push air filters because they are low cost with high mark-up. You should always inspect your air filter by holding it up toward the sun - if you can see daylight coming through, then the filter doesn%26#039;t need to be changed. Your filter only needs to be changed once a year and you might be better off stopping at an auto parts store to buy a filter and change it yourself.|||careful, if you are only changing the filter itself and replacing it with an oil charged filter such as a k%26amp;n you have to go easy when you clean and re oil it. I see lots of them cause problems with the mass air flow sensor due to over oiling.|||your car needs air to operate correctly.like the human body, you need air to live.the engine is like a air pump.the faster air flows through it the better it operate.you need to change the air filter every 3 to 6 months to keep your car running well if the filter were to get cogged your car won%26#039;t run

my car has 82,000 miles on it. i need to get a tune up on it. don%26#039;t have enough money. so was wondering if the air filter is still good. do i really need to change.|||Air filter life expectancy can vary from over 20k miles if you drive in areas with clean air to as little as 3k miles if you operate in dusty desert areas.

The air filter sign keeps flickering on the digi meter after changing to a K&N filter.wht do i do?

i just got the stock air filter changed with a K%26amp;N one and since then the air filter sign on the digi meter keeps flickering.should i be cautious or it will do no harm to the engine.please advice me as soon as possible.|||What vehicle is it? One cause could be that the new K%26amp;N filter was over coated with the filter recharge spray (which is what you use when you clean it to reuse it) It may be blocking the flow of air, so what you can do is clean and respray the filter and that may stop the problem. If not then if this vehicle has a MAF or a Mass Air Flow sensor then that could be bad, because it has to sense the air flow, so if it doesn%26#039;t sense the proper amount of flow then it may think the filter is bad which would turn on the air filter light. also make sure that your MAF is plugged in; your MAF is located between your air filter and your throttle body

I hope I was helpful and that this aids in diagnosing your problem!

Good Luck!!!|||What is K%26amp;N?

What are the advantages of changing air filter in bikes?

makes it run alot better , better mileage.|||if you don%26#039;t change the filter, and you let it clog so bad it%26#039;s like your hands , place them around you neck and apply pressure enough where you can%26#039;t breath!! could you run around and be efficient_____NO YOU CAN NOT!!!! thats what you engine will go through and use more gas more oil and loss of horse power!!!|||clean oil better air/gas mix ,giving the best perfomance ,and a longer engine life.but if its a jap bike ,keep it clogged with that old filter . need to choke them rice burnin, kid killers, they only good for 1 thing........ well no , nothin good about them at all .be sure to drain the oil in it too they run so much faster without oil. harley%26#039;s USA and,.... ok ,ok ....sry im done but hope i help you out take care|||There is no advantage. Saturn 2005 ion Check engine light after changing air filter?

i recently changed the airfilter in my car. my first time doing so. and now im getting a check engine light but only after some heavy driving...

i checked out the filter and from what i can see its exactly the way it was before hand. maybe not?

what are your thoughts?|||I%26#039;ll bite. What is %26quot;heavy driving%26quot; in a Saturn Ion. (and I don%26#039;t mean a REDLINE). A cabin filter won%26#039;t cause a code, a true air filter in the box might cause a code if you got the maf dirty or installed the filter upside down. Since I own a 2k5 redline I don%26#039;t think you can do either of these things with the air filter but I might be wrong.|||Heavy driving? what car was it? does your oil need changing? or is something else wrong?

Changing your car's air filter: should you do it or your mechanic?

I%26#039;m looking through my car%26#039;s manual (1992 Acura Integra) on changing the air filter. It seems pretty straight forward and I think I can do it myself- but I%26#039;m by no means a mechanic.

I was wondering if maybe the manual has left out certain important steps that I might not know about.|||You shouldn%26#039;t have a problem, that has to be one of the easiest things to change, normally even if you have a mechanic do it they just charge for the parts, it%26#039;s so easy they don%26#039;t charge labor, Good luck!|||If A Mechanic Was Free Then It Would Be A Good Choice But Since The Manual Is Straight Foward I Think You Should Go For it ^_^|||go by the auto parts store and ask them...they will help you|||No, my hubby does it in about 5 minutes.|||do it yourself. it%26#039;s simple.|||No, it%26#039;s very easy. I learned to do it myself.|||Changing you air filter is generally an easy task. If you cannot figure it out on your own, any local oil/lube center should do it as a courtesy while changing your oil. Heck, maybe even just this by itself.|||Air filters are one of the easiest and cheapest things you can do. If your manual is showing you that it is easy it probably is. Just make sure you get the right one for your car. Will not changing your home air filter damage things?

I haven%26#039;t changed my air filter inside the house in quite some time. The one that connects to your heater and ac. Aside from the dust, will it actually damage the system in anyway? If so how will it do that? Thanks.|||Dust particles can damage the air movement equipment by causing undue wear. Wear means that the unit will run less efficiently, thus causing you more money in both heating/cooling costs AND repair /maintenance. Like a car running uphill, the unit will use more energy to do what it should do more easily.

Filters are cheap. Replacing them monthly is less than a couple cups of coffee. (We just bought extra high grade filters at Home Depot and spent 9.95 for 3 of them. )|||It will damage the motor by clogging up vital motor parts with dust and hair and other crud. We have cats and a cold air return in the floor of a hallway. We DO clean our filter downstairs at least once a month, but that wasn%26#039;t even enough. We paid about $100 extra for our service last year to have the technician clean out the stuff that still got through and was collected around the motor. We added a hand-cut filter to the cold air return, and our filter downstairs stays much cleaner. You need to maintain your filter.

It also costs you much more to try and heat or cool with the efficiency blocked by a clogged filter.

Your house will stay cleaner, too, if you maintain your filter. You will recycle less dust and fewer allergens if you don%26#039;t leave them to be recycled endlessly back into your house through a dirty heating + cooling system.|||it will prevent proper circulation for the cold or heat for one, and it could damage the system because you are blocking it ,and it might cost you more then replacing a filter or washing it ,if you have one of those permanent ones installed.

By rule of thumb, they should be changed once a month , depending on where you live , in regard of dust and other air born particles, or if you had renovations done to the house, begin by vacuuming all the vents this is a plus in keeping your filter clean as well.|||HVAC Tech.: The only thing worse than running with an OLD filter is to run with no filter at all. Any thing that slows the air flow causes the blower to work harder, using more electric for what you pay. The damage occurs when dirt, germs collect on the evaporator coil. Blocking the air flow so that air can no longer give up heat to the coil. This can cause coil to freeze over and allow liquid refrigerant to go back to the compressor and destroy the compressor.|||not changing the filters will make your bills go even higher than they already are. The dust build up blocks the flow of the air and slows down the compressor in the A/C. Leanred the hard way, change them regularly 1-2 months with a high quality air filter.|||It will restrict air flow, sooner or later cause your evap.to freeze up,burn your fan motor out[lack of air flow],wash the valves out in the compressor and cost you more money to run your system every day till it breaks down.|||yes it will cause the rotation of the fan to turn the opposite way. and it will make it pull air instead of push it.

Does changing the air filter of an old car do much to the hp?

compared to changing the intake AND the air filter?

The intake looks just like a rubber pipe that leads the air to the filter. Doesn%26#039;t seem like much to me.|||yes the better the engine can breathe the more horsepower it will make. as long as that rubber pipe is clean not blocked just change filter|||The problem with stock filters is that it hinders the air flow thus slowing the engine performance. There are indeed air filters available that can boost HP by as much 5-10% because they allow the air to flow through them more freely. I did use one of these and you can wash them too instead of purchasing a replacement. I can%26#039;t remember what they%26#039;re called, but any custom car shop should have it or at least order for you.|||Depends on how dirty was when replacement to the air filter was done but on ave. will not be noticed

Changing Air filter and Plugs raise gas mileage?

I was told from a few different people that changing the Spark Plugs and Air Filter on my %26#039;03 Toyota Rav-4 would significantly raise the gas mileage. I%26#039;m getting around 22 MPG, and I%26#039;m pretty sure that I should be getting more. Is this true?|||I can鈥檛 say for sure that it would significantly raise your gas mileage but it will definitely improve what you have, but only by a fraction. You are not going to see gains of three MPG, but you might see one or two if your filter was pretty dirty.

Good luck

B|||They would ONLY raise the gas mileage IF they were old and worn. If you have NEVER changed the air filter or you live in dusty area (like farm area), they changing the air filter would very much help.

As for the spark plug, newer cars often use Platinum or Iridium plugs that last up to 100K miles. So your spark plug might not need changing.

===

Every time gas prices goes up, local stations do a story on gas mileage. Recently they test how much new air filters, plugs, proper tire pressure, clean trunk, etc. all helps. It turns out they all ADD up to only few MPG. It turns out that the BIGGEST difference is from driving habit change.

Jack rabbit starts (quick accelerations) are the worst, and driving on cruise controls are the best. They can improve your gas miles as much few MPG to 10 MPG (or more) improvement (depending on the weight of the car).

Good Luck.|||Not only replace the plugs and air filter, but replace the plug wires as well. Keep the oil changes inside of 3K miles and remove any and all excess weight (junk in the trunk) from it.

Oh, check your tire air pressure and tire wear. Also keep your foot out of it. Drive smoothly, don%26#039;t accelerate hard and start to slow for stops waaaaay ahead of time.

And... yes you can see as much as three mpg improvement.|||Well, it depends if the air filter and plugs were worn out and old... Better change the air filter, spark plugs and wires, and drive smoothly. You can see that there%26#039;s an improvement in gas mileage.|||Your driving style adds to your fuel economy too you know. Check out my source below to see what you can do and see if your doing it right for better MPGs on your vehicle.

Why does my truck hesitate to start after changing my air filter?

I have a 1999 Dodge 1500. I recently changed the oil and the filters. It started fine before the change but now it hesitates when I start it. I am sure I used the right air filter and other parts. Could this just be a coincidence or is it normal for it to hesitate after changing filters?|||You missed a vacuum line or the filter box is not attached to the intake correctly, there is a tab on the clamp that needs to be lined up correctly.|||This should not happen. Maybe you need a tune up? When was the last time the spark plugs and plug wires were changed?|||When you change the filter, you should make it a habit to clean out your throttle body and most of all, the IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. You may have changed the air input, and the control valve is too dirty to keep up with the change you have made. GOOD LUCK!!
