  • Changing a stock air filter with a performance one?

I have a 1991 honda accord lx and I have stock intake piping and a stock filter. I would like instructions on how to replace the stock air filter with a performance air filter. I know that I need to take out the air filter box but there is this hose thats connected to it and I dont know what to do with it. If someone could give me instructions on how to replace this part for my car that would be great.

Here is the link to the type of air filter I will get. Its from PepBoys.

Changing a stock air filter with a performance one?
your wasting your money/that junk wont do anything for your car/your better off with 12 bucks worth of pipe from home depot/that car has a computer that runs it and all you will do is lose gas milage as the computer trys to compensate for the vacuum loss/waste of time
Changing a stock air filter with a performance one?
ok heres how to do it. take out the intake box. you will be left with the piping. then just slip the piping over the aftermarket intake and tighten the clamp. and thats how you do it
Think long and hard about what you're about to do. Your standard air-filter box draws in cold air from up under the fender. Cold air contains more oxygen than under hood hot air. This thing from Pep Boys is minus the hot under-hood intake manifolding. It's worthless as it's pictured here. More worthless sucking in hot under hood air after spending your money on it with the manifolding where ever it is.

Replace your standard air cleaner element with a direct fit K%26amp;N for less than %26amp;55.00 or buy a complete N%26amp;N *cold air intake for @275.00.

It is the box on the bottom left to you when you open the hood. You need to pull that cover out and it will be inside. Here is a picture.

How often should I change my engine air filter?

I have a 2003 Toyota Corolla....how often shoudl the engine air filter be replaced?
How often should I change my engine air filter?
about every 2 or 3 oil changes depending on how many dirt roads you travel on. If it is all pavement you are good with the 2 or 3. If you have a lot of dust being sucked in every 2 oil changes.
How often should I change my engine air filter?
As a rule every 15000 miles unless you travel dusty roads or some other dirty condition
Your owner's manual may give you the best information for your car. Your car dealer is also a good source. Generally, you can go about 20,000 miles under normal conditions. If you buy a K%26amp;N air filter, you can wash it whenever you like to clean it and it lasts the life of the car. http://www.kandn.com
I lived near the desert and I changed mine once a month to be sure...8 bucks a month was easy to keep your car engine cleaner...not sure if it was a benefit or not but I did it anyway.
I have mine changed every two oil changes. I don't live on a dusty road, but it's fairly busy and there's always dust flying from the traffic.

How often do you change the air filter on a 6.0 powerstroke?

how many miles to be due for a changing?
How often do you change the air filter on a 6.0 powerstroke?
For a removable air filter, there is an old rule of thumb. Hold the filter up to the sun light and see if you can see light through it if you can then air can pass thought it as well. The dimmer the light, the more restricted the filter is. Hold a new one up and you will see the difference. Most people change their filters long before they need to be changed. Hope this helps. There is no set rule for changing, only recommendations as conditions vary according to where you are and your climate where you live.

  • Could Engine Oil coming up throught the Air Suction Valve into the air filter be caused by bad valves?

I have an 85 Toyota Corolla SR5(Carbureted) that keeps spitting up oil into the air filter area. Changed the PCV Valve and hoses about 8 months ago and not noticing the normal %26quot;blow-by%26quot; in that area of the filter. I'm seeing it more on the side where the Air Suction Valve and the Air Suction Inlet are, almost as if its pumping oil up there. Could this be a sign of bad or worn out valves?
Could Engine Oil coming up throught the Air Suction Valve into the air filter be caused by bad valves?
If your vehicle exhaust system is blocked you can experience back pressure in your engine check your muffler shop to check for clogged rear muffler, if all is well then you probably have worn piston rings or engine block wear.
Could Engine Oil coming up throught the Air Suction Valve into the air filter be caused by bad valves?
See if oil return hole is plugged.
does the engine have too much oil? just an idea....

Should I change sparkplugs/air filter based on months or miles?

The recommended maintenance schedule says it's time to change my sparkplugs now since it's been so many months, but not yet by miles. Should I change them now or wait until I hit the recommended mileage? I know it's %26quot;which ever comes first,%26quot; and that makes sense to me for things like coolant and belts which will degrade over time no matter if the car is driven or not. But for things like sparkplugs and air filters?
Should I change sparkplugs/air filter based on months or miles?
Spark plugs, air filter, wipers are things that should be changed by mileage or wear. Mileage and time are just guides to let the average user know these things should be inspected for wear. Look at the spark plug electrodes, are they rounded or worn to one side? or are they stil relativley square shaped. (some platinum plugs are round shaped) look for uniformity. Filters are changed when they are dirty, blocking air, they also get wavey looking if they've gotten wet.

This is a sign that they need replacement. Depending how and where you drive has a great impact on how often filters are changed.
Should I change sparkplugs/air filter based on months or miles?
    Miles.

How will they wear out just sitting there?
They recommend months or miles because it's much easier than measuring what truly matters...hours in use.

Fact of the matter is, these are recommendations, not requirements.

A requirement is something that you must do, i.e. you must use gasoline in order for your engine to run.

A recommendation is something that you can do, i.e. you are recommended to use 87 octane fuel. In reality, you can put any octane you want as long as the fuel is the requirement: gasoline.

So if you chose to go by mileage instead of months, no ones going to shoot you.
Definatly do it on miles. They dont wear away when not in use. Seems daft to waste money when they should be ok.
as an owner of a repair shop personally what I do for my own car with air filter and gas filter is replace them once per year weather I hit the mileage or not. the plugs they make to day will last a lot longer than plugs in the past but if they have been in the car for a long time I would change them. I only say this because I have seem plugs that could not be removed from car simply because they were in the car to long. the plug may have rusted,or water filled the hole that the plug sets in and corrosion formed around the plug.
dont go by your manual. any more manufactures tell people that vehicles can go a long time without maintinence. bull ****.

air filters should be replaced 12k or sooner depending on drive enviroment. plugs today can go a long time. large maintinence services offered by dealers. 30k,60k,90k covers all of these but they are pricey.

belts should be replaced if they show signs of cracking.

listen to your dealer technicians recomendations
time only really matters for fluids. They do get worn out just sitting. But an air filter can only get dirty if the engine is running hence sucking in air. Same thing really with plugs. Now wires on the other hand can wear out from sitting because the rubber can deteriorate over time from sitting. Pretty much change fluids by miles or time and things like brakes, plugs, fuel filters, and air filters by mileage

How to change an air filter in a 2002 Honda Civic?

How to actually do it on this car, not just general information.
How to change an air filter in a 2002 Honda Civic?
If you're talking about the filter for the intake, it's just a few screws screwing it on right above the engine cover. It's a little black box with horizontal grooves going across it. You can remove it with a philips or i think a 8mm hex screw. The cover should lift right up with little effort... if it doesn't, don't force it and check that you've removed all the screws.

take out the old filter and drop a new one in and retighten the cover.

be careful not to re-tighten these bolts too tight though because you can crack the plastic on the filter cover!

I want to change air filter in my toyota tacoma 2000.?

How much is an air filter? And if I bring to shop, how much they charge me for this service? Thank you
I want to change air filter in my toyota tacoma 2000.?
Why would you want to bring it to a shop? All you have to do is undo 4 clips and stick the filter in the air box. You don't even usually need screwdrivers or a socket set.
I want to change air filter in my toyota tacoma 2000.?
Filters vary from about $11-$16 and that's how much it costs at valvoline oil change to have one put in, $15. Call a few oil change places before you go buy one.
Air filters vary in cost from one brand to the next ($10-$18). A shop will usually charge you extra to install the filter. You can easily do the job yourself.

I like K%26amp;N filters. They cost a bit more but they are permanent, when they get dirty, you just clean them and re-oil them. They also are less restrictive than a paper air filter. That improves performance and efficiency.

AutoAnything will sell you a K%26amp;N filter for the Tacoma for $38 with free shipping.

look man. theres only one way to judge when your air filter needs changed. and thats the climate you live in and or how much time you spend off road but i doubt thats ur case, the only way you can tell is to take the filter out and look for yourself. if the filter is ok then why fix whats not broken right. also check for any intake leaks but with 16k miles i dont think you have a problem there.

ok retard. Books dont say everythin. take out the air filter. look at it. if it's dirty, change it. if your not a retard, and you've done this, look for a dis connection of the intake( between the engine and filter)

  • How do i change the air filter on my central air unit that is outside?

it's an older model mobile home and i believe there has to be a filter that has to be changed somewhere but have no idea where to begin
How do i change the air filter on my central air unit that is outside?
The outdoor unit doesn't have an air filter. Look inside. There should be a panel inside that has the indoor unit behind it. It may be located somewhere near the water heater. You do not need to call a repairman to change the filter.
How do i change the air filter on my central air unit that is outside?
call a plumber that specialises in cooling and heating.
The filter would not be on the heat exchanger outside. It would be located at the air intake to the furnace. Follow the cold air return to the point where it joins the furnace, your filter should be inserted into the ductwork at that point.
You should call an a/c guy who can also clean the outside unit. Get references for an a/c guy from your friends or neighbors. He/she should be able to find the filter.
I have one built in 84 with the compressor outside, but inside is the %26quot;return%26quot; and that's what gets a filter. In my case it's 24 x 24 square.

    Rev. Steven

Certainly I'm not assuming you haven't checked, but I'd be surprised to know there's a filter outdoors, unless it's a window unit AC
You have to change it from the outside, unless it is inside.
There is no filter on the outside part of air-conditioners. The air filters are inside and filter the air as it recirculates within the mobile home. If it is a roof mount unit like on a motor home, remove the cover/grill on the ceiling and the filter will be exposed. If it is not a roof mount the filter will be somewhere in the return air duct usually close to the recirculating fan, possibly behind a louver on the wall or inside the fan unit itself.

    Good Luck!
the air filter is inside in the large return (big vent on ceiling) open it up and you will see it just remove it and stick the new one in easy to do.
There is no filter on the outside condenser unit, but it does need cleaning occasionally. You can obtain a coil cleaner at some (NOT ALL) hardwares. It comes in a spray bottle with all the directions you need. This is one of the most common a/c problems and you can handle it yourself.
There is not 1 correct answer to your problem thus far. Look around inside your mobile home and find the return air duct opening, could have more than one but not likely. That would probably be the largest grill in the system. You might find the filter behind this grill,if not follow the the return air duct all the way back to the furnace, the filter will be somewhere in this duct. Most likely places to find filter would be behind before mentioned grill, in furnace or in duct line. Yes, filter can be outside if you have a package unit ( A/C and furnace in same cabinet).

Hole in 2006 Honda Accord air filter housing?

I have a 2006 Honda Accord and when I changed my air filter today I noticed a hole on the bottom of the housing about and inch wide. Is this normal? Is it supposed to be there? Or did something get ripped off the bottom? Also filter is full of soot and cigarette butts and insects in there. Do I need to be concerned?
Hole in 2006 Honda Accord air filter housing?
inch wide, odd, may have been a spot for a resonator pipe to feed the air, as far as the cig butts? Maybe someone was in the process of making their own filter c/o Biodome
Hole in 2006 Honda Accord air filter housing?
you need to change that air filter, and as for the hole, does it look like a factory hole, or a break?, if its a break, put some duct tape over it.
get a new air filter not good for your pockets or your air filter
With a plastic housing, just get a scrape of plastic (flat, like from a big laundry detergent bottle) and circle the hole with a bead of hot glue maybe 1/4%26quot; diameter, press down plastic. Should be airtight seal. Repeat on the other side just to make sure.

How do you change the air filter on a Honda CRF 150 R?

I can't get it out from under nieth the seat.
How do you change the air filter on a Honda CRF 150 R?
Undo the two 10mm seat bolts to remove the seat, then undo the screw on the air filter and turn the filter on its side a bit to remove it as it won't come directly out.
How do you change the air filter on a Honda CRF 150 R?
if its the same as its bigger brother the 250r what you got to do is you know at the back of the seat holding the seat and rear mudgaurds down their are 2 10mm bolts either side, unscrew them and take the seat off then their a bolt in the middle of the air filter to keep it down, unscrew that then pull it off, you got to twist it then pull it up then you should block the whole which goes to the carby with a rag or somthing to stop dust.

its wierd the first time you do it they really should pick up the ways of the ktm, its so much easier.

    Good Luck
You have to take the bolts at the end of the seat off, then you slide the seat backwards. You then have access to it. You need to unscrew the wingnut and simply pull it off. I am assuming you know the drill to clean it. And just do everything in reverse order to put it back on! :)
unscrew the airfilter chamber and then unscrew the stock airfilter and tilt or move the airfilter with the airfilter basket out of the airfilter chamber

for cleaning i would reccomend PJ1 both the cleaner and airfilter oil stuff that %26quot;grabs%26quot;dirt

How often do i change the air filter and spark plug on my kx 85dirt bike?
that all depends on how much it's used. if you race, you should change, (the spark plug at least) every 4 races or so. if you don't, use it much i'd say about every two and a half months. i'm sure you can figure out the median to those two ends.

    When to change air filter?

I have a mitsubishi lancer GLX, 2006 model. Kindly let me know when I have to change the air filter, oil filter and engine oil. I mean once in how many thousand kilometers.
    When to change air filter?
Oil and filter is every 5K, and just take the air filter out every time you change the oil, and hold it up in the air to see if the light passes through or not. If the light passes through and there is not a lot of visible dirt, blow it off with compresses air and put it back in. When it doesn't show light passing through it, or get a decent amount of dire that does not just blow off change it. Probably about every 30K though.
    When to change air filter?
oil %26amp; filter every 5 to 8k, air depends on conditions dusty etc. Inspect and if you can see light through it it's fine.
that really depends on what conditions your driving in but typically once every 9720 kilometer,s (6000) miles. Or simply once every other oil change.
you can change air filter when ever you want twice a year or more is fine every other oil change and for oil it should be ever 3000 miles or about that more you do it the longer the motor will last really if air filter looks dirty it cost like 10 bucks or less and anyone can do that takes about five minutes you type into search box

Quite being such a wuss. My mother is more mechanically inclined than you are.
I thought that used the round cone head filter your local auto parts store where you are going can show you how. If it is square you flip the two plastic spring clips toward the filter box and on the inside three tabs go into slots lift to tilt and pull off toward the fender
you are in luck!!!! i have owned many ford rangers including a 1999 with the 3.0 liter. it was a good truck until my wife wreaked it!! damn, damn, damn!! anyway the clamps you are talking about will not break, unless you try to use a screw-driver to pry them! first, flip the lever up ands push down on the air box at the same time. the clamp hook should become loose from the bottom of the air box!! now while your at it i suggest buying a K%26amp;N replacement filter. they last forever and they give you more power and better gas mileage. yes they do cost more, but will pay for themselves in months!!!!!!

How do you change air filter in1996 Mazda MX 6?

There ar tabs on one side of the filter box, usually on the right side of the engine ( a big hose goes into it). Pop it open, but don't force it and replace with the proper part from the auto store. I reccommend K%26amp;N, but they are a little pricey. IF you upfgrade it, you will get better mileage and more power. Also they a guaranteed for 1,000,000 miles.

the air filter shoudnt reomtely affect you starting any car.. the car will quite hapily start with no filter fitted whatsoever... its deffinatly somthing youve nocked and not the filter itself... you may have blown a fuse to the starter motor or somthing similar or just nocked a wire... its worth checking your fuse panel and the mass airflow sensor wich is right next to the filter (the clips on wire coming into the large tube connected to the filter and your engine), often it comes loose wen you remove the filter.. hope that helps :)

The 1st answer is correct. At most twice a year, but once a year is adequate.
every time u change your oil is a good idea to check your air fliter, If u could see day light thourgh it you are good. Its a good idea to blow it out when u do look at it, Let your car breed easer. I change mind at lease four times a year. its not that much on parts.

15 - 20 thousand miles. Since you drive alot of miles. Opt to buy a K%26amp;N filter they last 100,000 without cleaning them. They cost like 50 beans but you save compared to all the paper air filters you'll be buying. Plus you'll get better gas mileage to the K%26amp;N filter. And they don't void your warranty.

If you drive in a dirty area, it is less miles.

The average person drives 13,000 miles per year. So you replace it about twice a year.
    Every 10k miles.......but i do it every 6k miles.
At least once a year or every 12K miles which ever comes first.
i change mine every 6,000 miles to keep the dirt out. every 2nd oil change
i agree with jay. 12k is decent.

How do you change an air filter for Mitsubishi Spyder Eclipse?

This is simple. Im not familiar with eclipses but this should not be hard to explain. Find the plastic air box that is connected to a duct that is connected to the throttle body that is connected to the intake manifold. Remove this plastic air box, usually held down by clips, clamps, or screws. you will see the filter as soon as you remove this air box and you can drop your new filter in and put it back together. This is a pretty simple task, the hardest part is probably removing the clips.

How long would it take to change the air filter on a BMW?

It says on the box 1 hour? It is that hard, I looked in the Haynes manual and they five it a difficulty of 1 out of 5. So its meant to be real easy. Just asking before I **** it up.
How long would it take to change the air filter on a BMW?
You should be able to change all the service items in under an hour, plugs, fuel filter, oil filer, air filter and oil change! If its just the air filter 15mins max should do it. Just take your time and follow the manual, sure you'll be fine with it mate, next time you need to change one it'll take you about 3 minutes!

Fitting an aftermarket filter wouldnt be in the haynes manual, it only tells you how to replace the existing one. Still shouldnt take an hour though.

You might need to get the car set up again when you replace the standard filter with an induction kit.

Unless your doing the exhaust and de cat at the same time you're wasting your time. If you've already got a decent exhaust then the sooky sound will be the only noticeable difference!

5 minutes if its a six cylinder. They really are dead easy.
Depends and the model of the car.

    Ja.
if it takes an hour to replace an air filter on any vehicle then you are doing something wrong. It shouldn't be that difficult to get to any filter as they have to be changed frequently.

(for about $60) So I went online to see what they cost (about $50) but when I read about the engine air filter replacement it claimed that the replacement was good for a million miles...while the oil change guy said that ...%26quot;as soon as it gets gray at all, it needs changing%26quot;.. I don't get it... if a replacement is worth a million miles then why wouldn't the original be good for at least 1/2 a million miles - bottom line, should I change it at 75,000 miles? By the way the engine air filter replacement is $40 and the cabin air filter is $10... I can see paying the $10 for clean air but I just can't figure out why I just can't drive with the filter that should logically have at least another 400,000+ miles on it, if the parts dealer claim is even close.
When to change air filter 2003 Corolla LE?
Do not go by the claims of a parts dealer. They aren't bad people, they just don't know every person's habits in the world.

If you go to any high dust and debris area, than the filter's life will be shorter. Any thing other than perfect conditions shortens the life of any filter.

As far as the filter starting to show any gray, it doesn't mean that it is done for. But after 75,000 miles, how much more are you looking for?

$40 for another 75-100,000 miles is cheap! The cabin filter can usuallt be blown out and used again, if you want.
When to change air filter 2003 Corolla LE?
the original is NOT a million mile filter...change it every 25,000 mi....the million mile has to be washed every 10,000/20,000.......are u really gona do that....i dont think so...
They were just trying to sell you something you did not need.

You can replace your own filters yourself just buy a manual and a basic hand tool set.

Also you replace your air filter sooner if you drive in dusty conditions.
There's no way air filters can last a million miles, that's bull****

All oil, fuel and air filters should be replaced every 15000Km/9321 miles, and a cam belt every 75000km/46605 miles.
It is more expensive to have them change it, but the convenience is worth it.
Shouldn't you trust Toyota and your dealer to tell you when the air filters should be replaced? Remember, a quickie lube may be just trying to sell you stuff to make money. Your Toyota dealer has to go by Toyota's recommended replacement intervals. Check your car's owner's manual and call the dealer.

  • How do you change the air filter and spark plugs on a 2004 ford fiesta?

When i lift the bonnet on the car all i see is this large lump of plastic which i've got to asume hides the bits
How do you change the air filter and spark plugs on a 2004 ford fiesta?
buy a Haynes type manual - just the job for the novice .available at almost any car acc. shop .
How do you change the air filter and spark plugs on a 2004 ford fiesta?
Your right, the large lump of all-concealing plastic is common these days. Nevertheless, once it's out of the way it's actually very easy. I, too, would suggest you nip down to Halfords and get a Haynes manual while you're buying your new parts. It'll tell you how to do this job more sensibly than rewriting it all here, plus it'll be a help for virtually anything else you want to do in the future.
    Dont just assume..

Now for your car you should be able to buy a maintenence book for your car.

Will explain how to do everything to do with your car.

Engine, electrics and all, steps and some diagrams.

I recommend you head over to a car store... (Supercheap, Repco etc.) and get yourself one!

    Depending on your country
unclip the air filter housing and remove air filter and fit new one remove spark plug leads get spark plug spanner and remove spark plugs
get the manual in the link....no amount of explaining here will be as much use as the Haynes manual and you then have it for further reference. Best of luck.

How often should I change my Air Filter and Fuel Filter in a 2007 Ford Fusion?
For normal service, about 30K each.
I'd change air filters more if I lived in a dusty or arid region, say about every 10K. But look at it every other month. If you hit a lot of remote gas stations, I'd change the fuel filter 2-3x a year.

Otherwise, keep to the recommended intervals and keep records.

How do I change the air filter on a 2004 Ford Focus?
There is a large rectangular black box over on the driver's side of the engine compartment with an air snorkle hose attached. The top half of the box unscrews from the bottom half by removing the four 8mm screws that hold it together. Remove those four screws and oipen the box. The air filter is located inside. BTW, Be sure you remove any plastic wrap tht there may be on the new filter before you install it. I have seen someone leave that on before, then they couldn't figure out why the car wouldn't start.
How do I change the air filter on a 2004 Ford Focus?
Start by opening the hood..... then there's a black box at the end of the intake tube that feeds air into the motor.....open the airbox.....remove the filter and replace it with the new one....reseal the airbox and whalllla you're done. Hope this helps.

  • Which air filter should I buy for my Katana 600?

It's a 1995 Katana 600 with 20,000 miles. I don't remember ever changing the air filter. BikeBandit.com lists the following: OEM $37, K%26amp;N $71, EMGO $17, UNI $31. I mostly commute to work, but sometime go for a ride on some nice SoCal mountain roads.
Which air filter should I buy for my Katana 600?
I'd get the K%26amp;N or the UNI they are both great filters although the K%26amp;N allows increased air flow through the engine giving better gas flow giving you in turn better throttle response.
Which air filter should I buy for my Katana 600?
Personnally I like to get the K%26amp;N because it flows a lot more air than the stock ones and lets your engine %26quot;breathe%26quot; better and they are also reusable so you never have to buy another one.

BUT, if you dont plan on keeping the bike for much longer and it does have a LOT of miles on it for a %26quot;rice burner%26quot; I would just get the cheap one.

Now if you were talking about a Harley(which at 20K is just broke in)I would get the K%26amp;N.
if i was you i'd get a k%26amp;n airfilter they are the vbest one in the world and are really easy to clean and will last longer then your machine will.

Where is the air filter in my house?
couple places you can check right at the furnace.. where the furnace attaches to an air duct at floor level...or inside the large grate in the home..also on the side of the filter you will see arrows they should point towards the furnace

How ofter should i change the air filter for the house?

I am sorry dont know what they are called. just removed and it had thick layers of gunky dust. OMG tottaly gross. i hope we dont get sick. no wonder my husband and daughter are sneezing all the time.

HOW OFTEN TO CHANGE? WHERE TO GET IT? WHICH ARE BEST?
How ofter should i change the air filter for the house?
change the air filter every month. It improves the heating and cooling efficiency. Cleans the air you breath and cuts down on heating and cooling bills. Get the measurements off the old one (example 20x21) take it to Home Depot or Lowes and they will tell you what kind to use. Happy Breathing
How ofter should i change the air filter for the house?
It typically should be changed each season, each filter is different, though, some are rated for 6 months, some for a year. Go to www.walmart.com, www.lowes.com, or www.sears.com to shop, I bought mine at sears.
I believe you should change it every 30-90 days depending on how dusty you're place is. They sell them everywhere, but the most convient would be a place like WalMart. And as far as quality I would figure you could read them at the store and see what air filtration features you would like. You can get one for less than 2 dollars but %26quot;the best%26quot; could be around 7-10 dollars.
Every 1 to 3 months depending on the quality of the filter you use and the environment you're in. You'll need to change it more often if you have a lot of dust and dirt in the air, pollen, that sort of thing.

If it was that gross, you're clearly not changing it very often. Really, seasonal is a minimum amount.
When I had my home inspection the inspector advised monthly. Worth a few extra dollars a month to breathe better, also with pets or allergies, its worth the money. Check the manufacturer for their suggested filters.
Every month! They sell a filter you can wash and re-use now. It cost a little more in the beginning but definatly saves money and it works just as well as the others. Good luck. Don't forget.. ceiling fans act like filters as well and collect dust and it just floats around if you dont wipe them down all the time.
the heating service guy said once a month in the winter i still do it once a month every month. i get the filters that you can wash. they are so nice .
Check it at least once a month, during winter, to see if it needs changed, then take down notes as to when you should have it changed. Summer months shouldn't be so bad. Unless you have central air conditioning. I live in southern California, so I only change mine every 6 months, or when I notice my allergies acting up. If you have problems with allergies in the home, you can find hepa-filters almost anywhere. That would help even more.
Definitely once a month year round. I worked in the hospitality industry for several years and for the cleanest air and most energy efficiency you need to change them monthly. Your electric bill will make you happier if you do this. And they are very cheap! Purchasing them at discount stores you can usually get 3 to 4 in a pack for under $3.00.

How often should I change the air filter in a 2007 Toyota Rav4 V6?

every 15k or one year. whichever comes first. this is what we did at toyota when I worked there
How often should I change the air filter in a 2007 Toyota Rav4 V6?
Air filters should be changed every 12 months or 15,000 miles (this is a factory recommendation). If you live in an area that has alot of dirt you should change it more often or when dirty.
every 3000 to 6000 miles depending on your driving conditions.

HOW OFTEN TO CHANGE? WHERE TO GET IT? WHICH ARE BEST?
How ofter should i change the air filter for the house?
They are just known as air filters. They keep your coil from getting dirty and it helps stimulated the air flow. Plus it aides in keeping dust down a little bit. Absolutely change it every 30 days. If you do, then you will notice your heat/air unit working more efficiently therefore, keeping your costs down a little more than if you didn't change your filter as you should.

If you have a common size-you can buy them very inexpensively at Walmart-If you have an odd size, try calling a heating and air conditioning company in your area. They usually have all sizes, but they are a little more expensive (even with the regular sizes) as they can't buy them as cheap as the mass market stores. They have all kinds but really as long as you change it like you should, the brand doesn't matter.

Be sure to measure so you have the correct size.

By the way, they also have the washable type of filter. You don't have to buy new ones with it-but to me it's just easier to buy the ones you can just toss out.
How ofter should i change the air filter for the house?
Once a month, but if I live there every day.
    Every 3 months
you should normally change the air filter about once every month. if you live in an area where there is a lot of construction such as new housing developments or businesses like i do, you should change it every 3 weeks. you can go to home depot to get the filters. believe it or not, the cheap ones actually work the best.

How often do you need to change you air filter and fuel filter in you chainsaw ?

I use it the fall and winter alot.
How often do you need to change you air filter and fuel filter in you chainsaw ?
A good rule of thumb is to clean the air filter every third tank of gas. When cutting dry pine and ceder, which produces much finer chips and has a dusty bark, you may want to clean the filter more often. The gas filter shouldn't have to cleaned but once a season.I've been logging for sixteen years and found this to be the best method. Also remove the cover plate (where you adjust the chain tension) and clean out around the clutch and oil passages on a regular basis.Don't forget the bar groove where the chain travels,it can plug-up restricting oil from lubricating the bar. Good Luck!

How do I change the air filter on my Goodman furnace?

I figure there's a slot or cover or something to pop off, I slide out the filter, slide in a new one of appropriate size... but where do they hide the thing? It's a recent model (can get it if needed) gas unit about a year old... on it's original filter though since I can't find where to change it.
How do I change the air filter on my Goodman furnace?
Take off the top and bottom door of the furnace. You'll need either a 5/16%26quot; nut driver or a slotted screw driver.

It could be behind the bottom door. If it's not there then it will most likely be in a Filter Grille in a wall or ceiling.
How do I change the air filter on my Goodman furnace?
Look for the air return. It is a most times a white louvered grill in the wall or ceiling. Flip the latches, flip door open and this should give you access to filter.

Motorcycle - my air filter box is not completely sealed on one side will this result in loss of power?

i recently changed my air filter on my 1999 honda cbr f4 motorcycle. The cover of the air filter housing/box would not seal completely the screw holding it down on one side were not able to fasten very tight. Can air manage to fit through the crack and cause my to lose power? how can I check this?
Motorcycle - my air filter box is not completely sealed on one side will this result in loss of power?
Hi,it may loose power and if your unlucky enough it will also drag Road dirt in and may cause more damage ..Unlike the answer above me from (parrothe... ) dont take any chances (strait airflow DOES NOT mean more power).. take out the air box (a little messy ) and look why its not closing properly if its just the screw threads are gone generally a bigger screw will fix this but just in case something more silly is gone wrong %26quot;ie%26quot; the filter itself is not seated right your better off taking it out and make sure the casings are not cracked..Hope this Helps Best Regards Steve
Motorcycle - my air filter box is not completely sealed on one side will this result in loss of power?
yes it will lose power...remove the cover and find out why itrs not fitting.....
No, it will NOT lose power.

Suck something in, like a sand bit or dirt, it may lose an engine or rings, but opening a carburetor to not flow through the filter technically gives better flow, better flow equates to more power.

Unfiltered air equates to potential disaster.

Use a body filler puttty or JB weld or even a heavy bead of silicon and seal that puppy up.

If using silicon, make sure it's well cured before you start the motor.

In response to the disagreements below. So, air that is coming to the engine, doesn't bypass the filter via any open hole in the seal? What's the motive force pushing the air through the filter and not through the opening?

I understand if the opening is small enough, and the airflow is large enough, yes, some of the air will be filtered.

And where in the question does it say the ram air induction is cracked, not the filter to housing seal is not whole?

And most importantly and to the question - Generally speaking, more air is needed for more flow for more power. Yes, there are exceptions to this, but USUALLY, you don't lose HP when you increase flow. Hence, we keep buying K%26amp;N air filters (They flow significantly better than standard OEM filters!)

I stand by my answer. GR Jim's point is more accurate, only if the filter surfaces are still sealed when the cover is in place. That's not how the question is posed.
A non sealing air box cover on that bike will not hurt the engine.

Air still has to go through the air filter before getting to the engine.

But there may be a slight decrease in engine performance (probably not noticeable unless you push the bike to it's limits every time you ride it).

With a leaking air box cover, the ram air system will slightly be inhibited.

If you don't notice a difference, I wouldn't be overly concerned about it.

If you're going to lose sleep over it - repair it, replace it, or close the opening with a piece of duct tape.

If it looks dirty, change it! I guess you can try cleaning a filter, but in general it is best to just get a new one.
Suggest it depends on the dusty conditions, hold it up to a bright light ,if a lot of light will pass through if it is usually still ok
hold it up to light if a good bit of light will pas through if it is good

Question about Air filter in my 2003 chevy monte carlo ss?

I dont really know anything about auto parts but i just changed the air filter in my monte carlo the other day, and it seems like its not running as smoothly..? i bought a different brand than what was in it before, does this make a difference? also does anyone have one of these cars who could tell me what i can do to increase the cars power or acceleration so it runs better?
Question about Air filter in my 2003 chevy monte carlo ss?
I own a shop, and think this; It sounds like you have a plugged up fuel filter. A good rule of thumb is; to change both of these at the same time. Also; Go back over the job you did, and see if there is a hose that you left off, or a connector wire that's not plugged in good. I would also suggest you go over all your vacuum hoses to see if any are split where they plug on, fits loose, fell off, or weather cracked %26amp; sucking vacuum.

A couple of things to do; Add a good cold air induction %26amp; filter system, and add a bottle of STP (black bottle only) to at least 3/4 of a tank of fuel, about twice a month, and you should see the difference in power as well as mileage. I use BP or Amaco high grade fuel. I know.... it cost more, but you will get much better mileage, and the fuel will last a lot longer. I have a 94 S-10 Blazer that gets right at 30 mpg on the highway. Thats not bad for a Vortec V-6 with over 250,000 miles on it.

Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!
Question about Air filter in my 2003 chevy monte carlo ss?
well the brand of any would be ok should nt cause it to run bad.... i like k%26amp;n filters seem like they give more and last a bvit longer.... maybe you didnt get it back in the way it shoul dbe or you knock something loose doing it... if it was running better before you did it......if not you needed to replace something else like plugs or fuel filter

Why does this 96 Cavalier I'm working on have three distinctly different connections for the fuel pump, NOT ONE of which can withstand thirteen years of corrosion?

Why does my Dodge Ram Van seem to be incapable of having a set of tires last beyond a year?

Why do the doors on a Dodge Neon seem impossible to align when replacing?
Why is it so hard to change an Accords air filter?
Ummm.....its not hard. put some muscle into it. It takes like 3 minutes to change a filter on those cars.

I haven't heard of this issue, maybe you should call the manufacturer for more information on what you should do to resolve this problem.

I hope your family is better soon, God bless.

What will replacing the filter in a cars stock air intake?

Say changing the stock filter to a K%26amp;N air filter? Does is change the sound? how much hp?
What will replacing the filter in a cars stock air intake?
It does nearly nothing. No HP increase. No change in sound. It just filters the air getting sucked into the engine.
What will replacing the filter in a cars stock air intake?
To answer your question NO it will not drastically change the sound of the engine, and wont drastically improve Hp.

the two main things that make a car run faster is fuel and air.

to improve sound headers, exhaust and muffler is where your looking. changing the intake wont account for much if you don't match the exhaust. Getting quick air in and out is the goal.

and to gain hp it would depend on the intake size and pipe diameter changing these WILL increase hp, i can't say how much due to several factors.

however, keep in mind fully upgrading from stock to custom intake and exhaust may off balance your sensors and put you on %26quot;check engine%26quot; which will revert to %26quot;retarded timing%26quot; so if your going to fully do it do it right.

But just changing to a cone filter won't hurt, but won't add much either.
If your planning on keeping the car then upgrading to a K%26amp;N filter makes sense.

They are washable and properly cared for they will last the life of yr vehicle.

The open weave design of the cotton filters do breathe and filter much better than a cheap paper filt.

HP gains wont be noticeable but if you make some modifications to the standard air box to basically open it up to the fresh incoming air you will probably get an air intake growl when flat on the gas.
K%26amp;N filtercharger %26quot;claims%26quot; that they give lower restriction than a stock airfilter. I haven't tried it, but I doubt that it would provide a really noticable difference in sound or power, but maybe it is worth 3-5 HP or so on the top end wide open.

If you are a kid on a light budget, this may be one of the few choices for under $100.

Also under $100 would be making sure you got a good new set of plug wires. I like Magnecor Race wires, and I think ensuring a good clean spark is worth a few more HP than the K%26amp;N filter.
Performance air filters tend to make your engine make an air sucking noise when you accelerate. (not necessarily a good noise)

HP? Maybe +3-5 if your lucky.
It won't change the sound at all but you will still gain a couple of horse.
    Couldn't hurt your fuel economy

What air-filter should I use on my Honda 250ex, Moose Racing or Uni?

I am going to change the oil on my 250ex and figured I should change the air-filter too. I did want to put a K%26amp;N Air filter in it, but I am not paying an extra $20-30 more...So I was wonder which is better Moose Racing or Uni...not just which one gives more power I want to know reliabilty too.
What air-filter should I use on my Honda 250ex, Moose Racing or Uni?
Most reliable is the stock filter, followed by either the moose or uni. So for best reliability, clean and reoil your stock filter.

  • My 99 Dodge Ram is only reading 7.6 after changing the spark plugs and air filter. Any Suggestions?

Any ideas on what i can do to my truck to help it get better gas mileage?.7.6 is just not acceptable when i drove it off the lot 3 months ago and it read12.2. It has 85,000 miles on it. I could really use some help on this one im stumped on what would make it go down that much.
My 99 Dodge Ram is only reading 7.6 after changing the spark plugs and air filter. Any Suggestions?
wear on the timing chain will cause it and the timing its self will cause it,you need to check this and also check your fuel filter,if its gets clogged up a little it makes it starve for gas,and then you keep your foot in the pedal more to keep it going without realizing it,it all adds up though in the end,id also have the computer scanned on it,a bad sensor will cause this,0-2 sensors will cause one to get bad mileage the scan should help tell you what its doing, that's not much mileage for that truck,it can do a little better than that, good luck with it.
My 99 Dodge Ram is only reading 7.6 after changing the spark plugs and air filter. Any Suggestions?
    ummmm try somethin' different
Tyres, tyre pressures, aerodynamics (open windows etc), timing belt, lots and lots of things.

It might even be a broken mpg sensor...

And yeah - 7.6 mpg is not acceptable!
    It could be this..........

I have a ram with the mpg reading and I can reset it . If you were to reset the mpg reading and take a trip up the highway doing 60 mph, you would get a great mpg rate. The problem is, when you go to a stop light and wait or do some stop and go driving, your mileage is decreased by several mpg's! This might have been a ploy by the used car dealer to sale the truck that may have problems with gas consumtion.

I hope not but just a suggestion.

How do i change my air conditioner filter on my Allegiance 10?

I have an american standard Allegiance 10 and need to change the filter. first what kind of filter do I need and second how do I change it? the manual says call your local dealer.
How do i change my air conditioner filter on my Allegiance 10?
The filter is either located in your furnace OR on the return air side.

    Locate it and buy another.

Allegiance air conditioners do not have seperate filters.

Assuming you have an American Standard furnace look on the return air side (left or right side) and you should see a filter slot. Slide out the old and replace. If the filter is inside the furnace it will be visible after you open the bottom door of the unit.

If you are still confused call a local American Standard Dealer and try to give them the model number of the furnace. It is either located just inside the top of the furnace cabinet or on the side of the furnace. The model number will tell them exactly what you need.

Take out the old one, go buy one the same size, put it back in the way you took it out.

um no i own a 2005 and it has a %26quot;lifetime%26quot; air filter.that is why autozone, napa, kragen, and pep boys dont carry the airfilters.its actually a unit just in front of the drivers tire and it goes into the fender well.the filter is HUGE so i do believe it will go the lifetime of the car.and you can only get the filter box at the dealer IF your lucky.

How do i change the cabin air filter of my car?
I just changed my air conditioner air filters located behind the glove box on my 2002 Civic and most late model Hondas. Just remove the glove box and you should see the access to the air filters directly behind it in a black box. Mine has two filters, one on top of the other behind a cover inside slide out plastic frames, remove the frames one at a time, take out the old filters from each frame, replace filters into frames, restack frames back into box, close cover, put glove box back on.

How does one change the interior air filter in a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo?

The dealer has changed the filter once last year and that cost me a bit of cash. Does anyone know how I can change the filter myself?
How does one change the interior air filter in a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo?
First off, I suggest cleaning often instead of changing due to the cost. However, it may be difficult to get to on this model.

First and oldest location of the cabin air filter would be under the cowling of the windshield. Open up the engine compartment and look on the passenger side just below the bottom of the windshield. There may be an access area to remove just the filter, or the complete cowl must be removed, including the wiper arms. If you have your old invoice when the dealer changed this, check the labor hours and amount. That would be a dead giveaway that the cowl must be removed.

On newer models, the cabin air filter is located inside the glovebox. The very front will give you access to it via a removeable panel.

When you have the filter removed, simply flip it upside down and drop it flat on concrete or asphalt several times. This will dislodge most of the larger trapped particles. Compressed air can be used as well. DON'T use water...they are paper filiments.

Then simply reinsert and reinstall any access panels and you're good to go for another month or two. I would suggest cleaning it three or four times before a replacement is needed.
How does one change the interior air filter in a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo?
Most Likley a dealer installed item. But on BMW and Lexus they are both changed from the air recurculation duct. BMW is in the engine compartment and the Lexus is behind the Center console
why would you drive an Aveo

That's the problem with GM making silly cars like this, just let Toyota keep it's echo all to it's pathetic self.
If by interior air filter you mean cabin / air conditioner filter, you shouldn't need to replace it every year. Maybe every three or so. If you mean the engine intake filter, it's very easy to change and should take about two minutes. Changing the cabin filter is usually fairly complex, but not too difficult. Buy a Haynes of Chilton manual for your car if it's been published yet.
Nice car! I have a friend who has one and I really like it!

As for help ~ best advice, make an appointment with yer Chevy dealer.

What happen if I do not change the dirty air filter in the car?

What happen if I do not change the dirty air filter in the car?

Actually, how does the air filter affect the car performance and gas consumption, etc?
What happen if I do not change the dirty air filter in the car?
if the air filter is dirty, less air gets into the engine and causes higher gas consumption to a car. gas and air mix in almost equal parts...the spark pulg ignites the gas and pushes the pistons up and down. if there is not enough air, then there is more gas than normal and more waste of gas and it would not run efficiently. if your strapped for money to buy a new one, just use air from a compressor at the gas station or buy air cans to clean it out.
What happen if I do not change the dirty air filter in the car?
poor gas milage and preformance, spend the $10 to $20,it pays off!
It will suffocate your engine and will start to run poorly and get very bad fuel economy, eventually it will start stalling and loose it's power. Air filters are cheap and easy to replace so it would be a very good idea for maximum performance get a new one asap
as the air filter gets dirty it hinders the flow of air into your engine. causing the fuel air mixture to be off....the plugs will become fouled and your miles per gallon will go down...you will feel a difference in how the engine performs when you accelerate. and the richer mixture can cause your catalytic converter to burn out because of unburnt gas in the exhaust.

so spending the money needed to put a new air filter in your car is a lot cheaper in the long run then running with a dirty one.....

bye you air filter when it is on sale and not wait till you need it and it will cost you less to replace it.
Your engine will be 'air-starved.' If you can't pay to replace it, remove it and clean it. Here are instructions I found at the website below - I hope it helps.

Can I service a paper, disposable air filter myself for longer service?

Yes. Remove the filter and cover the intake to prevent foreign objects from entering it during the air filter service. Move away from the vehicle and tap the filter gently on the ground to knock out large pieces and loosen small pieces/dust. The best thing to do now is to use an air blower (at about 40-60 psi) to blow out from the center of the air filter 鈥?forcing the air in the opposite direction of flow when it's installed. If you can't do that, use a shop style vacuum to get the dust out but use the nozzle on the outside of the filter 鈥?from the direction air flows when it's installed. Note: a small, soft brush is also excellent to use during this process.
The air filter is the only route for the air required for combustion to follow. If the filter becomes blocked with dirt, less air will flow to the engine but the engine will still have the same displacement and as a result will draw more fuel. Also the fuel air ratio is very important, if you have to much fuel it will not burn completely and will increase your fuel economy.
as eveyone else has said, you will get less air, but not only that if even a small amout of dirt (1 grain of sand size and smaller) gets through it can completly block up your carby (if you have one) even if your car is fuel injected the dirt in the air getting in can have a sand paper affect on your cylinder walls. MAIN POINT get a cheap air filter $10-$20 or end up having to posibly spend thousands on your engine
dirty filters equal poor perormance engine will be starving for air your gas mileage will drop considerably. Eventually it will result in excessive engine wear due to air fuel mixture spark plugs will wear out sooner etc. etc. chage it as soon as you can or try blowing it out with compressed air until you can.

What are the adverse consequences of driving around with a dirty air filter?

Or, put another way, what are the benefits of changing a dirty air filter?
What are the adverse consequences of driving around with a dirty air filter?
A clean air filter is important for your car's performance. This means that your air filter should be changed regularly, or your gas mileage will suffer. A dirty air filter can also cause other systems to run ineffectively, such as your emissions control system, which regulates the car's air-fuel mixture. A dirty air filter can also cause your spark plugs, which ignite the fuel in the combustion chambers, to foul, as there will be too much fuel without enough air; if your spark plugs foul, you may have problems keeping your car running.
What are the adverse consequences of driving around with a dirty air filter?
Gas mileage gets quite a bit better if you have a clean filter.
Fuel injection in modern engines will compensate for a dirty filter. The most noticeable result will be a drop in horsepower as the in injection system compensates for less air flow by reducing the fuel going into the engine.

  • How do you change push mower air filter?

is there any instructions or PDF's on the net on how to change a puch mower air filter.
How do you change push mower air filter?
Typically older push mowers used a 'steel housing' for their air cleaner assemblies - mounted with a simple slotted screw to the carb housing - on the right side of the mower ( looking from behind) . Unscrew the slotted screw and the cover comes off exposing the air filter element- usually a foam type - Remove and install replacement ( you can either take old one in or that and motor numbers - stamped into flywheel shroud on top of the motor) .

New ones use part of the plastic shroud or a plastic cover to hold the filter in - a paper type. Typically its held on by a single machine screw , the cover comes off and the filter cartridge is right there - looks like a small automotive filter. Replacement is similar, motor numbers usually on a data plate somewhere on the engine/mower - take old one in.

It should fit into a spot on the housing and reclose the door- tighten bolt.
How do you change push mower air filter?
Should be easy to figure out. A lot of them just use a little plastic clip to remove the cover and then you pull the foam, filter out and wash it, let it dry and reinstall it.

You can also go to the manufacturers web site and look up the directions there, they may have an exploded parts diagram that will show you how it is done.
All engines are different. It's usually very easy. Most engines the filter is on the outside of the engine, very accessible and in a silver case. Their most likely is one screw that you remove to take the cover off and the filter is inside.

    Easy.

If it's more difficult then that try searching by the mower you have or if you know the engine manufacture and horse power search under that.

Why do I have oil in my Air Filter assembly?

I have a 89 Chrysler Lebaron with a 2.5L Turbo 4 cylinder. I went to change my air filter and it was soaked in oil. There looks like there is some sort of a sensor inside the air filter assembly compartment. It has to be coming from that. It sort of looks like a small egr valve, but made of plastic.
Why do I have oil in my Air Filter assembly?
Positive crankcase ventilation valve is plugged or the hose is broken or colasped, very common problem on these engines.
Why do I have oil in my Air Filter assembly?
Agree...PCV valve..or you REALLY have blowby!!

I would check the valve before panic. Always easier to be lazy and do easy checks first.

    Good Luck
that's the pcv valve probably ,and the oil your seeing is caused by blow by from the engine, this was a common thing with turbo engines, once they had a few miles on them, they don't hold up as well as regular engines do,one reason for this is they run a lot hotter, and heat causes wear on them, you can try replacing the valve, and clean it all out,and see if that helps it,if not its probably going to need some major engine work done on it,good luck with it.
you need catch can all turbo cars need it. you can make one with compressor filters from home depot and a rubber hose from your local pepboys or kragen. It will only cost about 20 dollars to make. follow your pcvalve and put a compressor in between the line. it will catch alot of the oil. Or you can go buy a 100 dollar catch can from a performance store.

Good web site to help you will be www.srtfourms.com do a search and many srt4 owners will help you.
The repair involves removing the head cover,or valve cover. You will need sealant pn 4318025 from Chrysler part. you can get the the same thing in a auto zone,or other auto parts store. It's not straight silicon,it looks paste, new air filter, new crankcase vent filter, and a valve cover gasket. The repair is to take the baffle off the valve cover (2) bolts hold it in place, once cover is off,pry baffle off gently,do not bend, clean old sealant off,and replace with new, replace 2 bolts, then replace, with new gasket. To see photos of this ,go to Alldata.com.pull up tech service bulletins, one titled oil in air filter.this service is free, you can also buy a CD on your make car. It's worth the money,if you are going to keep the car.
Been there, done that! I agree. Your PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) System works on vacuum. Check the valve and then check the vacuum hose. If the vacuum hose has no leaks and is not overly hard or soft, change the valve.

What causes there to be water in a car engine air filter?
Most likely it is water that got sucked up during heavy rain. However, only the 2003 model year, the first year, there's a known problem with the SAI accumulating water and making your check engine light go on. If that light isn't on, you're golden, just replace the air filter.

dont know exactly about that particular car, but most cars cabin air filter is located behind the glove box. you would have to disassemble the glove box to access it, and then replace the filter per manufactures recommended instructions. shouldnt take more than 20 minutes. but also you should be aware that not all cars have cabin air filters.

if it,s freezing up then it sounds like it needs servicing. call an a\c repair co. to check it out.
Can you email me what kind of heater/AC unit it is? Maybe i can search for some specs and they will show were the filter is. I'll send em right over to you.

My email i use now is: Rekusan@gmail.com
A filter for your furnace is near the furnace, not the ac unit. Look at the furnace, you will see a large (18%26quot; square) metal air duct where the heated air goes to first. Look for an inch or two wide slot about 24%26quot; long. Your filter will slide in and out of that

  • How is the in-cabin air filter changed on a 2002 Suburban 4x4 1500 flex fuel?

Remove the instrument panel hush panel on passengers side.

Remove the fitter access door screw.

    Remove the filters....

What is the best air filter I can buy for my 2004 Toyota Sienna LE?

I've had my car for over 5 years and I have never changed the air filter. It has such a bad odor. Please help.
What is the best air filter I can buy for my 2004 Toyota Sienna LE?
NAPA auto parts stores boxes their own cabin (car interior) air filters with the NAPA add on the box. Actually all their filters are made by the Wix filtration company. If you have a bad odor coming from your air conditioner or fresh air duct-work.

Please lend me your ear! This is no joke. You may have a fungus actually growing inside the air conditioning duct-work. New car dealerships have the equipment that runs a strong chemical fog through the duct-work for up to 45-60 minutes that absolutely kills bacteria and fungus.

If you are talking about your engine air filter you still can't beat NAPA filters.

    Fram

Your air filter should be changed about once a year.

Stick with the disposable filters and change them when you should.

I would stay away from the washable oiled gauze filters. If you won't take the time to change a filter, you most certainly won't take the time to wash and oil a filter.
Any air filter. The first one your hand touches that is the right part number.
You will not smell your air filter inside your vehicle unless you are referring to the in cab filter. If so, buy a Fram.
If you are going to keep the car for a while, I'd recommend a K%26amp;N high flow air filter. You never have to change it, when it does get dirty you clean it and recharge it with a special oil, it gives slight improvements in performance and gas mileage by allowing more and better (less turbulent) airflow into the combustion chamber. They do cost more upfront, but over the long term it's worth it.
some vehicles now have a cabin air filter, filters the air that goes in the interior. if you have an odor inside the vehicle, the

engine air filter has nothing to do with that. if you haven't changed the engine air filter in 5 years, change it today, it'll

help with performance and gas mileage greatly. you can buy

a deodorant for the smell, check with a parts store for that and the cabin air filter, it'll smell brand new with those two items, promise.

Money saved by changing electric furnace filter?

How much has anyones electric bill dropped(electric furnace) by changing a restricted air filter?
Money saved by changing electric furnace filter?
a bit. hard to calculate, but the fan works less and a space gets more heater, faster, so a space needs the heat on less.

I would guess that you could save one KWH per day. it's an immediate savings because it costs little.

I have a gas furnace. this you should consider, as that will save you a lot. all you have now is a large toaster with a fan on it:)
Money saved by changing electric furnace filter?
I doubt you are going to get an answer to your question. Obviously, everyone says to change filters regularly, use higher efficiency filters, etc., but am not sure most people keep track of how much money they saved. Temps change, resulting in furnace run time differences, etc.

You might try your county extension office, or your local electricity provider for answer, but I still doubt you will get some kind of reliable response due to the variables.

All I can say is I change mine regularly, and in winter and hotter summers, I see much more junk in them since the unit is running more. So, changing would probably save, but I don't know how much. The easier the air moves the less your unit will run, but you have to have the filter or you will just be recirculating the dust.

If the AIR FILTER in my car is installed incorrectly, would the check engine light come on?

I'm trying to change my air filter in my car and it's a tight fit. If it's not positioned exactly correct, could it do damage to the engine and cause check engine light to come on?
If the AIR FILTER in my car is installed incorrectly, would the check engine light come on?
its possible ,but it would have to be restricting the flow of air to the engine to get a check engine light,or the sensor that goes on the air tube has become disconnected, that will cause a check engine light, most people disconnect the wire to install an air filter then forget to hook it back up,check that first, then re-check the air filter,it would be rare if that was the cause of it,also look for anything else that might have got un-hooked that will cause the check engine light to come on,if that doesn't work, take it and have it scanned to see what set the light to come on,good luck with it.

    #1?

    Suck too much air???

    That's funny.
Any time you you get check engine light (CEL) get it scanned. Doing any kind of repair (spending money) with out doing a scan is wasting your time and money.

Go get a scanner (Autozone or Sears) or get it done for free at Autozone.

    ===

But in general you most likely will not set off the CEL by installing the air filter wrong.

    Good Luck.

Why am I getting less miles per gallon on my 2006 CLK 350 after changing the air filters?

I just changed the air filters on my 2006 CLK 350 from stock to K%26amp;N air filters and my on dash mpg readings are down about 3mpg's on avg. Is it running to rich? Do I have to recalibrate the computer?

Wouldn't I get better mpg's? Isn't that what high performance air filters are designed to do?
Why am I getting less miles per gallon on my 2006 CLK 350 after changing the air filters?
It may be running too lean if you increased the airflow.

Mods like this often require reprogramming the computer to use them efficiently.

Most vehicles in the last few years have been programmed to be as fuel efficient as possible. Changing things often takes you the other way unlike in the older vehicles where there were improvements to be had.

If you get it programmed properly, you may pick up some torque or hp, but your mileage likely won't be much if any better than before the mods?
Why am I getting less miles per gallon on my 2006 CLK 350 after changing the air filters?
See if the K%26amp;N has a help line! Maybe you can call them to get some answers.
No, your probably burying your footy in the accelerator more than your letting us believe you are. High performance does just what you said. It causes the engine to open up %26amp; bring on more power which in turn takes more fuel.
    Horsepower = gas + air

The more air you push through the engine, the more gas it will burn. See turbo chargers and super chargers.

If you want to improve gas mileage, put a restrictor in the intake. Some companies make such gimmicks that sit on the intake line and basically just restrict the flow, thus less gas mileage %26quot;improves%26quot;, but you have less HP.
Did you over oil the filter before you put it on? K%26amp;N filters need just a light coat of oil to catch the dust. If you get too much oil, the filter can't breathe properly.
