change the air filter every month. It improves the heating and cooling efficiency. Cleans the air you breath and cuts down on heating and cooling bills. Get the measurements off the old one (example 20x21) take it to Home Depot or Lowes and they will tell you what kind to use. Happy Breathing
How ofter should i change the air filter for the house?
It typically should be changed each season, each filter is different, though, some are rated for 6 months, some for a year. Go to www.walmart.com, www.lowes.com, or www.sears.com to shop, I bought mine at sears.
I believe you should change it every 30-90 days depending on how dusty you're place is. They sell them everywhere, but the most convient would be a place like WalMart. And as far as quality I would figure you could read them at the store and see what air filtration features you would like. You can get one for less than 2 dollars but %26quot;the best%26quot; could be around 7-10 dollars.
Every 1 to 3 months depending on the quality of the filter you use and the environment you're in. You'll need to change it more often if you have a lot of dust and dirt in the air, pollen, that sort of thing.

If it was that gross, you're clearly not changing it very often. Really, seasonal is a minimum amount.
When I had my home inspection the inspector advised monthly. Worth a few extra dollars a month to breathe better, also with pets or allergies, its worth the money. Check the manufacturer for their suggested filters.
Every month! They sell a filter you can wash and re-use now. It cost a little more in the beginning but definatly saves money and it works just as well as the others. Good luck. Don't forget.. ceiling fans act like filters as well and collect dust and it just floats around if you dont wipe them down all the time.
the heating service guy said once a month in the winter i still do it once a month every month. i get the filters that you can wash. they are so nice .
Check it at least once a month, during winter, to see if it needs changed, then take down notes as to when you should have it changed. Summer months shouldn't be so bad. Unless you have central air conditioning. I live in southern California, so I only change mine every 6 months, or when I notice my allergies acting up. If you have problems with allergies in the home, you can find hepa-filters almost anywhere. That would help even more.
Definitely once a month year round. I worked in the hospitality industry for several years and for the cleanest air and most energy efficiency you need to change them monthly. Your electric bill will make you happier if you do this. And they are very cheap! Purchasing them at discount stores you can usually get 3 to 4 in a pack for under $3.00.
