If the AIR FILTER in my car is installed incorrectly, would the check engine light come on?

I'm trying to change my air filter in my car and it's a tight fit. If it's not positioned exactly correct, could it do damage to the engine and cause check engine light to come on?

its possible ,but it would have to be restricting the flow of air to the engine to get a check engine light,or the sensor that goes on the air tube has become disconnected, that will cause a check engine light, most people disconnect the wire to install an air filter then forget to hook it back up,check that first, then re-check the air filter,it would be rare if that was the cause of it,also look for anything else that might have got un-hooked that will cause the check engine light to come on,if that doesn't work, take it and have it scanned to see what set the light to come on,good luck with it.

#1?

Suck too much air???

That's funny.
Any time you you get check engine light (CEL) get it scanned. Doing any kind of repair (spending money) with out doing a scan is wasting your time and money.

Go get a scanner (Autozone or Sears) or get it done for free at Autozone.

But in general you most likely will not set off the CEL by installing the air filter wrong.

Good Luck.
