How does one change the interior air filter in a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo?

The dealer has changed the filter once last year and that cost me a bit of cash. Does anyone know how I can change the filter myself?

First off, I suggest cleaning often instead of changing due to the cost. However, it may be difficult to get to on this model.

First and oldest location of the cabin air filter would be under the cowling of the windshield. Open up the engine compartment and look on the passenger side just below the bottom of the windshield. There may be an access area to remove just the filter, or the complete cowl must be removed, including the wiper arms. If you have your old invoice when the dealer changed this, check the labor hours and amount. That would be a dead giveaway that the cowl must be removed.

On newer models, the cabin air filter is located inside the glovebox. The very front will give you access to it via a removeable panel.

When you have the filter removed, simply flip it upside down and drop it flat on concrete or asphalt several times. This will dislodge most of the larger trapped particles. Compressed air can be used as well. DON'T use water...they are paper filiments.

Then simply reinsert and reinstall any access panels and you're good to go for another month or two. I would suggest cleaning it three or four times before a replacement is needed.

Most Likley a dealer installed item. But on BMW and Lexus they are both changed from the air recurculation duct. BMW is in the engine compartment and the Lexus is behind the Center console
why would you drive an Aveo

That's the problem with GM making silly cars like this, just let Toyota keep it's echo all to it's pathetic self.
If by interior air filter you mean cabin / air conditioner filter, you shouldn't need to replace it every year. Maybe every three or so. If you mean the engine intake filter, it's very easy to change and should take about two minutes. Changing the cabin filter is usually fairly complex, but not too difficult. Buy a Haynes of Chilton manual for your car if it's been published yet.
Nice car! I have a friend who has one and I really like it!

As for help ~ best advice, make an appointment with yer Chevy dealer.

Happy driving! :-)
