How do you change the air filter on a 2003 ford focus?

I do not see any clips on what i believe is the air filter housing. I removed two bolts but after further inspection, they did not appear to be holding it on. Is this just a major pain in the ***?

If you have the 2.3 liter engine, the air filter is considered a %26quot;lifetime%26quot; part, there will be a filter minder mounted to the right of the radiator. Check your owner's manual. If you want to have it replaced, you need to go to a dealer, but be advised the case and element are one integral part and costs over $100 dollars.

if not, take it to a shop or a Wal-mart super store... it should't be too much!

On the ride side of the picture you can see 3 black boxes. The first one is your battery covered in a plastic shroud. The middle one is your air box where your air filter is.

From the image it looks like 2 bolts on the front of it and most likely will be 2 bolts on the back side. If the bolts are the same bolts you already tried then look at the right and left sides of the box. From the image it looks like it has a plastic clip holding it down. Normally just a small flat head screwdriver pushed into these holes will release the catch latch.

Most air cleaners are a pain to open, they are wedged in tight and after many many miles of suction from the intake they can tend to stick.

Most air boxes are either screws/bolts, metal clips (honda) or plastic release clips like I described above.
lmao
Go to a dealer and they should help for free.
