My 99 Dodge Ram is only reading 7.6 after changing the spark plugs and air filter. Any Suggestions?

Any ideas on what i can do to my truck to help it get better gas mileage?.7.6 is just not acceptable when i drove it off the lot 3 months ago and it read12.2. It has 85,000 miles on it. I could really use some help on this one im stumped on what would make it go down that much.

wear on the timing chain will cause it and the timing its self will cause it,you need to check this and also check your fuel filter,if its gets clogged up a little it makes it starve for gas,and then you keep your foot in the pedal more to keep it going without realizing it,it all adds up though in the end,id also have the computer scanned on it,a bad sensor will cause this,0-2 sensors will cause one to get bad mileage the scan should help tell you what its doing, that's not much mileage for that truck,it can do a little better than that, good luck with it.

ummmm try somethin' different
Tyres, tyre pressures, aerodynamics (open windows etc), timing belt, lots and lots of things.

It might even be a broken mpg sensor...

And yeah - 7.6 mpg is not acceptable!
It could be this..........

I have a ram with the mpg reading and I can reset it . If you were to reset the mpg reading and take a trip up the highway doing 60 mph, you would get a great mpg rate. The problem is, when you go to a stop light and wait or do some stop and go driving, your mileage is decreased by several mpg's! This might have been a ploy by the used car dealer to sale the truck that may have problems with gas consumtion.

I hope not but just a suggestion.
