Cold Air Induction - Do I need to change the air filter?

I bought a car with cold air induction a few years back. I've put 40K miles on it. It has cold air induction. Do I need to change the air filter ever? I haven't found an air filter in it yet. Does it even use a filter?

depending on the brand and how old the filter is will give you different answers. I have an AEM cold air intake and every 30k miles I take the filter off and clean it and then spray it with an oil recharge system. Each company makes its own cleaning kit but they are generally all the same. Usually aftermarket filters are good for the life of the vehicle unless damaged or excessive wear is seen.

the one I used to use

Alot of the new filters are oil less so they do not need they cleaning kit from above. They just need to be cleaned.

new filter type.

I am just showing examples because I do not know the type of system or brand you have. But cleaning the filter every 30k miles should suffice, unless the filter is extremely worn or damaged.

ALL cars use some form of air filter. Most modern cars have cold air induction. In other words they draw air from outside the engine compartment.

If you have the original set up and there's no air filter inside the box you'd better get one or risk engine damage.

And yes you need to change it. Depending on conditions usually every 10 to 12 thousand miles. If you've got an aftermarket set up like a K%26amp;N you still need to clean the filter every year or so.
yes it has filter

and yes it needs to be cleaned or replaced
Yes! The CAI should have a filter and it either gets cleaned or replaced. Most foam filters are made to be cleaned but you should buy a kit to do it. That includes the detergent, a sticky oil spray, and instructions (like the K%26amp;N Filtercharger kit).

Do NOT use too much oil spray. If you do it can move down the intake and mess up your airflow sensor (usually heated platinum wires stretched across an opening).
Clean it do not replace it.
the cold air intake filter probably can be found inside the fender liner, thats where mine is, if it is a cleanable filter, just wash it with a hose, brake cleaner, and voila, good as new...
