If an air filter doesn't it's job it will just restrict the air causing your car to stall for lack of air to make a good cumbustion mixture.

Provided that its the correct filter for the car, only a cheaper alternative then why not. it will probably break down quicker so changing every 3 months is ideal. Go for it.
Probably not right off, but over the long haul it may cause somewhat greater piston and ring wear.
It should have a grading in the technical bits about what is the largest size of particle it will let through the mesh. This is the important bit because if it's going to let golf ball sized rubbish in to the engine it doesn't matter if you change it every 3 months, the rubbish will get in from day 1. A good quality filter will reduce the crap that goes in and hence (if you drive sensible like) your engine will last longer.

Or something like that.
Yes, buy a quality one that is compatible with your car. You might save money up front but in the long run, your car is going to suffer and that is going to cost you more 拢拢拢.
If you're going to change it every 3 months then it probably won't be as cheap as the 拢20 one that'll last a couple of years.

I stay away from 'cheap' anything to do with a car. Why save a couple of quid here %26amp; there and run the risk of doing some damage somewhere.
