I am going to change the air filter in my basement. which side faces the floor?

the filter has 2 sides. 1 side has metal threads, the other side doesn't. which side faces the floor? thanks

The metal threads should be facing outward, and the non-metal side into the system.
if you are placing the filter at the bottom of the unit the metal goes up if you are placing it on the side of the unit the metal goes toward the unit there should also be an arrow on the filter indicating the direction of air flow find the arrow and install appropriately also if you can hold that filter up to the light and see through it up grade your filter its cheap
There is usually an arrow on the side of the frame which indicates the direction of the air flow through the filter. Check it out.
Look for the arrow on the side of the filter for the direction of the airflow.
