Will riding a motorcycle with a K&N air filter with out the oil on the air filter?

I had bought this bike and decided to change the air filter and i noticed that it had a K%26amp;N air filter but the filter did not have the red oil on it will it mess up my motorcycle if i drove it about 3000 miles with out the oil on the air filter. If so what type of problem will the motorcycle have because right now it wont idle for to long and i have to keep giving it gas is that because of the filter

Buster gave good advice. Also keep in mind that the red oil used is actually tallow based (beef fat) and not mineral oil, so don't go pouring motor oil over it.

Running a K%26amp;N filter without oil is similar to running open intakes. the oil does most of the filtration by trapping particles that pass through the cloth. You bike will have a leaner mixture than with a stock filter. this may contribute to your idle issue, particularly if the P.O. did nothing to adjust the carburetion after switching to the K%26amp;N.

Before you go chasing carb issues, however, check your valve clearances. I'll bet you have not checked them yourself, and who knows when or if the P.O. did. An undstable idle is a classic symptom of tight valve clearances. Even if there is a carb issue, you have to get the valves right before you have any hope of chasing it down.
