You have to take the old filter out. Look in your owners manual for the location (under the hood ). Usually there are spring-type locks that you have to unsnap to get the filter box open (usually a black plastic box). Some have a wing nut.
You could also go to AutoZone or Advance Auto and buy a new one and they will help you change it. It takes about 1 minute.
