I changed my air filter now I'm getting less mileage, any thoughts on why this is happening?

In some vehicles, it makes a big difference which way you put them in, even though they fit snugly both ways. Try turning it around..

Be sure u have replaced it with the correct filter. Also bear in mind the filter could be faulty. Always replace with the filter your manufacturer recomends not with a conversion filter. Good luck and God bless

Also make sure no rubber hoses came off the side or bottom of the air box when you did it.
did you install the correct filter? auto parts stores are notorious for making errors! is it the same kind you had previously? if not consider that. i trust you tightened everything up, newer vehicles are very dependent on precisely the correct amount of flow!!! good luck! BIG-G,,,
Because the mass air sensor is showing the computer more air and thus the computer is adding more gasoline to compensate.
those go in a certain way check to make sure that the arrows line up because if put in backwards it cuts down on the air flow in the intake
Make sure you have not purchased %26amp; installed the wrong filter. If the filter is smaller or has more resistance to airflow, your engine need to compensate for the loss of power due poor combustion by burning more fuel..

Make sure:

you have the right filter size

the right amount of oil on it (if it has to be oiled)

you have not clotted any intake outlets by mistake

all tubes (coming form the engine) are plugged in to the air intake
if your car is equipped with a mass airflow sensor then it may require cleaning, you can pick up a can of MAF cleaner at most parts stores for under $3, just follow the directions on the can. if it doesnt have one then you may want to check the other filters like the pcv valve and fuel filter. also consider cleaning your throttle body to help improve response and fuel economy.
put in an original air filter not a cheaper version as it will cost you more in the long run lol
You may need to change your plugs and wires. Then have a mechanic put it on a machine to check the air/ fuel mixture. As you know the fuel we are burning now is bad stuff. The fuel will get better when they change over to summer mixture.
